POLITICO Poll: Only 22% want military to "protect democracy around the globe"

Asked whether the U.S should do more to counter Russian aggression in Ukraine, just 17 percent answered in the affirmative. Thirty-one percent said the current policy is correct and 34 percent said the U.S. should be less involved. The poll was completed before the downing last week of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, the civilian airliner that was apparently attacked over eastern Ukraine.

    (Full POLITICO poll results)

More than three-quarters of likely voters say they support plans to withdraw all troops from Afghanistan by the end of 2016. Only 23 percent oppose the plan.

Forty-four percent of likely voters favor less involvement in Iraq’s civil war, versus 19 percent who favor more involvement and 23 percent who say the current level of involvement is appropriate.

Some pretty strong numbers for anti-intervention in Politico's poll released today.

(Figured this was relevant to Rand as ammunition to use in foreign policy arguments - feel free to move if necessary)

The foreign policy and national security results in the poll could be even more significant for the looming 2016 presidential contest than they are for this year’s House and Senate elections. Republicans have already begun drawing lines of internal debate around defense issues; several potential candidates, including Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Texas Gov. Rick Perry, have emerged as interventionist voices, while Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is his party’s chief skeptic of foreign engagement.

wonder if they were afraid to offer "neither" as an option for "which party do you trust more to handle foreign policy?"

Should have asked "do you support the use of the military to protect and promote crony-capitalism around the world?"
The proper concern of society is the preservation of individual freedom; the proper concern of the individual is the harmony of society.

And the 22% thinks the rest of us are "isolationists"

how can one feel that our country is "the worlds moral leader"? i think we have good people here, but so does every other country to. i just dont see myself as higher than anyone else to make that claim as some do.

The worst part is that the warmongers think they are the 67% and the anti-war people think they are the 22%. It would be easy to think that from what you see on the media.

Isnt that how it's always is? until the next catalyzing event happens and everyone is calling for American to spread democracy or eliminate some dictator in some overseas country.

If America actually used it military to 'protect democracy around the world' its foreign policy would be in a world of hurt.

It would be putting down the Maidan... Friendly to Iran, re-invading Egypt and Iraq...
    In New Zealand:
    The Coastguard is a Charity
Air Traffic Control is a private company run on user fees
The DMV is a private non-profit
Rescue helicopters and ambulances are operated by charities and are plastered with corporate logos
The agriculture industry has zero subsidies
5% of the national vote, gets you 5 seats in Parliament
A tax return has 4 fields
    Business licenses aren't a thing
    Prostitution is legal
We have a constitutional right to refuse any type of medical care

No because there was Syria, Ukraine, and Iraq. It still didn't happen.

I don't think so, the politicians are way out of touch on this issue.

1 out of 100 Senators. Are there any others? And in the House of Representatives we've got a handful of antiwar Republicans. Ever since Kucinich left we haven't seen much from the Democrat Reps.

The one guy who is non-interventionist is the GOP Presidential front runner and beating Hilliary in swing States. He is also a medical doctor.
