Texas Gov. Perry to Deploy 1,000 National Guard Troops to Border

    Monday, July 21, 2014 03:57 PMBy: REUTERS

Texas Gov. Rick Perry said on Monday he planned to send 1,000 Texas National Guard troops to the Mexican border to boost security during a surge in illegal immigration by children, a move that could increase pressure on President Barack Obama.

Perry, seen as a possible Republican candidate in the 2016 presidential race, said the guard troops were needed because the flood of children crossing from Mexico had pushed federal border protection to its limits.

"The price of inaction is too high for Texas to pay," Perry told a news conference.

The governor's announcement came just days before Obama plans meet with the leaders of Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador on Friday to discuss cooperation on the influx of child migrants from Central America.

Could have been avoided if this had been addressed before it became a State assisted crisis. Now we get to expand the police state and yes I'm sure it's a political move by Perry...he didn't do squat before people started protesting, other than asking the Feds for help.
Prevention is worth a pound of cure. Yes I know the usual suspects will chime in. This is what open borders with an engraved invitation to benefits has wrought. No mention of the militias?

And what exactly are they going to do? Escort the illegals better? Its not like they are going to keep them from coming in. Seems kinda pointless.

A little late, Rick. But from a strategic point of view, he should have done this a week or two ago instead of picking a fight with Rand on foreign policy.

Trying to rebound from his thrashing by Rand, no doubt.
I too have been a close observer of the doings of the Bank of the United States...When you won, you divided the profits amongst you, and when you lost, you charged it to the bank...You are a den of vipers and thieves. I have determined to rout you out, and by the Eternal, I will rout you out!

He needs to seal the Texas border and bounce everyone along to other states until they do the same thing.

Only way the whitehouse can keep the border open then is to federalize the guard.
    In New Zealand:
    The Coastguard is a Charity
Air Traffic Control is a private company run on user fees
The DMV is a private non-profit
Rescue helicopters and ambulances are operated by charities and are plastered with corporate logos
The agriculture industry has zero subsidies
5% of the national vote, gets you 5 seats in Parliament
A tax return has 4 fields
    Business licenses aren't a thing
    Prostitution is legal
We have a constitutional right to refuse any type of medical care

He says it's only for show. They don't really do anything.

Notice when he is asked what the National Guard Troops could actually do @1:16, he avoids the question and @1:14 he is saying it's just the visual that's important.

I doubt sending the National Guard to the border is going to do anything but waste more money.

What exactly are you suggesting? Should the border patrol just shoot anybody coming across the border illegally?

Giving Mr. Oops the benefit of the doubt, soldiers make terrible peace keeping officers. You're taking people trained to kill and putting them on guard against what are essentially desperate refugees. This is a cluster fragging waiting to happen.

That was great. He wants to put the national guard there to send a message that, "hey we have a bunch of troops on the border but they are powerless and can't do anything about it so come on over since its admittedly just for show."

Yeah, here is the entire interview.

Notice @0:16 he is asked what the National guardsmen would do at the border and he says, a show of force.
@1:19 He is told, "Under the law, there is nothing the national guard can do." He avoids the the statement and just goes on like he knows what he is doing.
@2:11 He avoids the question again.

It isn't like Rick doesn't know the national guard isn't going to be able to do anything, but he probably feels it's in his best interest to make it look like he is doing something about the situation, even if what he is doing isn't going to make a particle of difference.

Or arrest em. Its an international border.

EXCLUSIVE: RINCON PENINSULA, Texas -- U.S. Border Patrol agents on the American side of the Rio Grande were forced to take cover Friday night when high-caliber weaponry was fired at them from the Mexican side of the river, sources told FoxNews.com.

The weapons were fired at the U.S. side of the riverbank in the area of the Rincon Peninsula across the Rio Grande from Reynosa, Mexico, at about 8:30 p.m., sources said. Bullets ricocheted into an area where Border Patrol agents were positioned, Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, told FoxNews.com.

Cross the border legally or get shot at/arrested is a pretty normal expectation.

Try rowing up to Australia, you will find your self in a prison camp for a damn long time with no legal protections.

Technically we are being invaded. Not that the governor of Texas has jusridiction to defend against an invasion, but if ordered the military would theoretically be able to defend borders. Of course the easiest solution is to eliminate all welfare to immigrants.

What really pisses me off the most is not the people coming here for a better life, but the gang bangers coming here, the terrorists coming here, and all of the bad things happening to people making the journey up from Central America. This is a problem caused by many administrations. Obama, like many things is just making it worse.
Too bad our elected officials are not as aggressively trying to reduce the federal deficit as they are trying to strip us of our constitutional rights.

arrest em and then what? we still end up feeding and housing them, plus the cost of security. It doesn't seem like Obama will deport them.

Maybe they can play beach volleyball and grill out just like the fighter pilot dudes in Top Gun, that is when they're not pointing their guns at cacti.

Perry says it is not about the illegals but "drug cartel violence".

    http://www.cbsnews.com/news/gov-rick...ops-to-border/

The announcement comes as the Obama administration is still struggling to deal with the influx of more than 50,000 unaccompanied minors, most from Central America, who have crossed into the United States in the past year. The additional resources are not aimed at the children themselves, Perry said, describing them instead as a "force multiplier" to help the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) "combat the brutal Mexican drug cartels that are preying upon our communities."

"I will not stand idly by while our citizens are under assault and little children from Central America are detained in squalor. We are too good of a country," Perry said.

The troops could detain people if asked, Texas Adjutant General John Nichols said at the press conference with Perry, but they are planning to play a "referring and deterring" role by deterring cartels with their visible presence and referring any immigrants suspected of being in the country illegally to DPS.

Perry argued that the elevated response at the border by DPS personnel has already has already acted as a deterrent force and reduced apprehensions. That operation comes at a cost of $1.3 million per week. A state memo obtained by the McAllen Monitor, which first reported Perry's plan to deploy the National Guard, indicated the new efforts will cost the state of Texas $12 million per month.
and little children from Central America are detained in squalor.
So maybe he says they should have better housing?
