    Default IA-3 Candidates

I'm struggling to figure out who to support in this race. There aren't any good liberty guys running, and they all seem pretty similar. For those of you who are more familiar with Iowa politics (I'm fairly new to the state), which candidate would you say is the least bad?

Matt Schultz: http://www.votemattschultz.com/ I found him on candidates4liberty.com listed as a 'fellow traveler' meaning ally. I live in TX, so I don't know anything firsthand, so research all the candidates, they can be found here:

This is from Joel Kurtinitis via Facebook, outreach director for Liberty Iowa:
How can a FreedomWorks endorsee support farm subsidies, the minimum wage, and medicare all in one night? ‪#‎IA03‬
He is of course speaking of Matt Schultz.

I've heard good things about Brad Zaun. Many liberty folks I know in IA-3 are supporting him.

During the main speech, the applause line came when Zaun mentioned he had voted against all the appropriations bills in the Iowa Senate. If hes elected to national office, he would not support any subsidies. I will not vote to pass this debt on to my kids. Period.
    ...
He also fielded questions on the NSA, I do not and will not support gathering information on Americans, and Social security reform, We have to have a hard conversation with younger people, and raising the Debt Ceiling, No.
Zaun is also on top in the polls. I am concerned if he doesn't win this outright. There would be a battle in the nominating convention and I think Monte Shaw could come out on top. Shaw is well connected and active within the Iowa GOP. I see Shaw as not much more than an ethanol lobbyist. I've had a couple group conversations with Shaw before this race came along and I was completely unimpressed.

You can look into Zaun's voting record http://votesmart.org/candidate/32392/brad-zaun

For what it's worth, Sen. Mark Chelgren from district 41 called Zaun the most constitutional state senator in Iowa.

Liberty Iowa Endorses Zaun for U.S. Congress

State Senator Earns Support of the Liberty Movement

Des Moines, Iowa – In the final week before the June 3rd Primary, Liberty Iowa PAC has endorsed State Senator Brad Zaun for U.S. Congress in the Third Congressional District. In a tight race that many believe will end up being decided by a special convention, an endorsement like this from a rapidly growing segment of GOP voters – the Liberty Movement – could result in an outright win for Zaun, who leads in recent polls. “I am honored Liberty Iowa has chosen to endorse my campaign. Liberty Iowa supporters are very educated and informed on issues,” said Zaun. “Standing together is the only way we will get Washington D.C. to listen. I will stand up and tell Washington D.C. enough is enough.” Liberty Iowa, a state PAC that was founded in the wake of the 2012 presidential campaign, has quickly become a leading voice on issues of federal overreach, agricultural freedom and domestic drone use, and boasts a wide network of conservative and libertarian-leaning activists across the state. Matt DeVries, Liberty Iowa Chairman, believes that the support of thousands of Iowan activists who have joined the liberty movement will prove pivotal in the hotly contested congressional race. “Liberty activists across the Third District are already familiar with Sen. Zaun’s record of small-government conservatism, as well as his courageous record in the state legislature,” said DeVries. “We are proud to support Brad in his run for Congress, and we believe his record shows that he will follow through on his promise to slash the size and scope of government, return America to a Constitutional foreign policy, and work to end the Obama administration’s rampant disregard for civil liberties.” Zaun, who won his congressional primary in 2010 with 42% of the vote, has become a well-known figure across the state for his bold stances and unwavering conviction. His small-government credentials include introducing a bill to eliminate the Iowa Department of Education, as well as championing a ban on traffic cameras. Liberty Iowa is active throughout the Third Congressional District, with growing membership and regular events in Polk, Dallas, Warren, and Pottawattamie counties. “Our members are among the most politically active people in Iowa,” said Liberty Iowa Executive Director Adil Khan. “They will show up.”

Zaun is probably the one to go with then.
