Teacher who ‘ordered a hit’ on 7th grader gets fired

It took a year to fire her. I'd like to know why she wasn't arrested too.

Florida’s St Lucie County School Board officially fired veteran teacher Dru Dehart after their investigation found that she encouraged six 8th grade students to beat up 7th grader Radravious Williams, WPTV News Channel 5 reports.

The incident occurred on March 20, 2013 and was caught on a Northport K-8 school surveillance camera. Footage shows the teacher pointing to the victim, instructing the students to go after him. Williams is then seen on the hallway floor being pummelled by a group of boys. “I looked at them and I was like, ‘Are you serious?’” Radravious told WPTV during an April 2013 press conference. The older boys, ranging in age from 11 to 15, were once Radravious’ friends but were instructed by Dehart to “teach him a lesson”.

Latasha Darrisaw, Williams’ mother said, “He said that they brought him in the hallway, and that they held him down, they kicked him, they stomped him, they beat him. And as he was trying to get away, they just basically like, continued to just torture him.” Darrisaw added, “(Dehart’s) remarks was, ‘I got my eighth grade boys on you. You’re not so tough now’.”

The district’s investigative report states that Dehart, “tracked down the students during lunch and contaminated their memories” after the fight concluded. Police later arrested the six juveniles who attacked Radravious. “As far as we are concerned, they are victims in this too. They were manipulated and they were told to have a certain story,” said Forman. “It is truly unbelievable what happened. A teacher ordered a hit on a child.”

WPBF ABC 25 News reported that Dehart taught Radravious’ critical thinking class. After the attack, Radravious switched to another school in the district.

Law dictated that Dehart could not be fired immediately because she requested a special hearing after the incident. However, the teacher was suspended without pay in the fall. The investigation was completed a year after the incident and the board took only minutes to unanimously fire Dehart. WPTV attempted to speak to Dehart at her house, but she did not answer the door. Dehart has never spoken publicly about the incident and has yet to extend an apology to Radravious and his parents.
Based on the idea of natural rights, government secures those rights to the individual by strictly negative intervention, making justice costless and easy of access; and beyond that it does not go. The State, on the other hand, both in its genesis and by its primary intention, is purely anti-social. It is not based on the idea of natural rights, but on the idea that the individual has no rights except those that the State may provisionally grant him. It has always made justice costly and difficult of access, and has invariably held itself above justice and common morality whenever it could advantage itself by so doing.

On the one hand, having taught 7th graders (the worst of worst of all ages to teach... by FAR) I can understand why a teacher might be moved to do such a thing. I once had a 7th grader in a joint lock after he clobbered me with a book in the head. That's OK, though, because I did inflict some serious pain on him as the tuberculosis-infected little bastard kept trying to punch me. Just the smallest alteration of the body geometry sent agony into his bones and I also let him know I would break his arm if he managed to connect his fist with any part of my anatomy. He was so hopelessly stupid that he kept trying until the dean came and dragged his worthless carcass away.

On the other hand, if you are going to take such action against an obstreperous little ill-bred $#@!, be smart about it. This teacher is obviously not too bright.

I would not be a teacher today for any money. That environment was pure poison in my day. It is orders of magnitude worse now. Honestly, I cannot see how anyone could be so self-hating that they would subject themselves to that sort of torment.

There is only one correct way: freedom. All other solutions are non-solutions.

It appears that artificial intelligence is at least slightly superior to natural stupidity.

Our words make us the ghosts that we are.

Convincing the world he didn't exist was the Devil's second greatest trick; the first was convincing us that God didn't exist.
