Thread: The Neoconservative Reference List

  1. #1

    The Neoconservative Reference List

This thread is intended to be a running reference list of those who advocate the neoconservative foreign policy agenda, including politicians, those in the media, and those at think-tanks and other organizations.

Quick definitions for use in this thread:

True neoconservatives: Someone who believes in a large, powerful, central government, especially when related to foreign policy. They will not really care about size and scope of government, taxes or spending. They probably (albeit sometimes secretly) support Common Core (Federal eduction control), Obamacare and Amnesty. They probably don't really care about the Second Amendment or the rest of the Bill of Rights. They may go with international standards rather than US Constitutional standards. If old enough, they very well may have been a former leftist-communist.

Their foreign policy will be very aggressive in most situations. They will believe in nation-building, nation changing and global manipulation. They will be particularly obsessed with anything related to Israel, Iran or Russia. Some of that obsession with Russia may stem from old communist ties and Stalin's betrayal of the international communist movement. The importance of spending for military contractors far outweighs any concerns about fiscal conservatism or spending. The military spending agenda results in a high amount of agenda overlap with advocates and lobbyists for the crony corporatist special interests generally referred to as the Military-Industrial complex by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

As true neoconservatives are globalist in nature, they shared a fervent hatred of Donald Trump and any America first policies related to borders, trade, industry, immigration, and war.

[*] Neoconservative on foreign policy: Fellow travelers with neoconservatives on some issues related to foreign policy. They may not align with neoconservatives on any other issues at all. Many average people in this category are unaware of the neoconservative agenda, but have been led into this position over the years, and are often hard to distinguish from lobbyists for the Military-Industrial complex. This can include people who lean Tea Party (Teocon) or are pure establishment.

I'd suggest including concise instances of neo-conservatism by all who qualify, for the sake of evidence and comprehension.
Radical in the sense of being in total, root-and-branch opposition to the existing political system and to the State itself. Radical in the sense of having integrated intellectual opposition to the State with a gut hatred of its pervasive and organized system of crime and injustice. Radical in the sense of a deep commitment to the spirit of liberty and anti-statism that integrates reason and emotion, heart and soul. - M. Rothbard

Most names have a link embedded. Some, like McCain and Graham, should need no added description. Trying to keep it simple and stick with hardcore neoconservatives for now.

I love pissing off progressives when I call him a neocon and then ask then to differentiate B.O. and W. Bush on the finer points.

You can add Chertoff to the list, as well as Rumsfeld and Rice.

Also, I dare say Hillary may fall into the neo camp as squarely as any. The description reads like her politics, exactly.

There's so much overlap, isn't there? It goes without saying that RINOs (GOP neoconservatives) and Democrats take a lot of the same positions, and even more often, the same actions. And then there is also a lot of overlap with what could be called "the establishment", the Plutocracy or the Oligarchy, which knows no Democrat or GOP Party boundaries.

Part of it may be the shared history among some of them, being intellectual descendents of one kind or another of Marx. The Democrats and other socialists didn't end up with the same level of animosity towards Russia that the neoconservatives (many early ones being former followers of Leon Trotsky) developed. Trotsky was assassinated by Stalin, so Trotsky's followers were particularly mad at Stalin and Russia.

That's all ancient history at this point, and mostly important to the hardcore, true neoconservatives (the think-tank types like Bill Kristol).

Suffice it to say that Obama and Hillary are modern, global socialists. They love big, powerful, central government (even a bit more than neoconservatives), and they also love meddling and manipulating other nations (perhaps with slightly less venom and vigor than neoconservatives). In the end, the actions are nearly identical, with minor variations in focus and justifications. Obama and Hillary have no problems wasting money on killing people and causing mayhem around the globe. And they are more than willing to defer to international law and standards instead of the Constitution. Perhaps they would be best categorized as "global, iron-fisted, socialist Utopians". Orwell's 1984 was a model, not a warning to them.

Let me guess: they will say Obama "inherited" the situation from the Evil Bush, and in 6 years hasn't been able to figure out how to end it.

Yep, always a good source. Quite a few from the starter list come from there. And they haven't been able to fully scrub Jeb Bush from there (yet). Almost every reference to Jeb and PNAC has been scrubbed from the internet (expect for the list you referenced on Wikipedia). If you have an additional link for his involvement, that would be interesting.

Presume nothing. If you want this list to serve an actual informative purpose, and be useful beyond superficial reference for those who are already aware, and already agree with it, there's going to need to be a standard for qualification. This list is going to largely be ambiguous and arbitrary so long as supporting evidence and citations that conform to a defined standard are not included.

And yes, that's going to take some time effort, but most things of value tend to require such. Luckily we have a forum of active users here who may be willing to research and contribute. I'd suggest creating a template for citation that people here can freely copy/paste to provide instances of 'proof of neo-conism.' They can then post their citations in this thread, where they can be verified, and the OP can be updated accordingly.

I recognize that McCain is a neo-con, and I can cite examples off the top of my head that supports this assertion; I'm sure you can, too. But there are still people out there that do not recognize him and others as such, and if they were to stumble upon this thread and see this list with no real explanation about the names on it, why should they take it with anything more than a grain of salt? I'd be inclined to disregard it were I such a person. So, that begs the question, what is the purpose? To reaffirm our own opinions and judgments that are already held? Or to be informative to those who may not already be aware, or have contrary opinions?

This has the potential to become a fairly valuable resource for effectively shaming the 'old guard' and RINOs, as it were; and it doesn't necessarily have to begin and end with neo-cons either.

I'll eventually add a link to every name. But that is only one link. What I was thinking is that more information could be put into an individual post in this thread, and the name could link to that post. What kind of template did you have in mind?

You may not have noticed, but a website linked in the OP has done a lot of this work already. They have a very long list, with an article on each person. Of course we can always create a more conservative and liberty centric informational post right here.

It's fair to single out the neocon ringleaders, as the great bulk of them will follow whatever charismatic lead is properly packaged to their tastes. I expect that when the leadership fails, the rest will scatter rather than regroup.

Look at the neocon efforts to find a champion since Bush II fell from grace - they are really quite empty-handed. I know that the desperation level is extreme enough that some are seriously proposing John Bolton as a Presidential candidate.

  32. #28
Also you can add to the list John Yoo and Andrew McCarthy, who were key propagandists in making an official torture policy palatable to the mainstream.

I noticed Jennifer Rubin's name on the list. I would also add other people in media who are/have been sympathetic to neoconservative politics:

    Rush Limbaugh
    Bill O'Reilly
    Sean Hannity
    Glenn Beck
    Mark Levin
