Exclamation TX-Austin cops shoot dog for barking at them

Posted this yesterday in the "Police Shoot Dog" thread with very little information available.

Now, of course, a little more comes out.

APD shoots dog, owner says dog was 'docile'

AUSTIN -- The Austin Police Department (APD) is investigating after two officers shot and killed a pit bull in East Austin.

According to the APD watch commander, police were responding to an auto theft call on the 4000 block of Prock Lane, just off of Springdale Road around 8:30 p.m. According to police, the officers shot and killed the dog after it charged at the officers.

Police say the officers were in the street and that they had yet to walk onto the property.

The owner of the dog tells KVUE the dog was docile, and it was just barking at the officers.

"[The dog] was just barking at them. [That's] what dogs do [bark at them]. That's all he was doing just barking, [the dog] wasn't trying to attack his leg or anything," said dog owner Margie Rodriguez.

    The shooting is under investigation.

"Officer safety was ensured. Go forth and enjoy your free 1 week paid vacation for a job well done son. Come back and shoot more things. Maybe try for a mundane next time and we'll bump your reward to TWO weeks free paid vacation!!!"
http://glenbradley.net/share/aleksan...nitsyn_4-t.gif “And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if...We didn't love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.” ― Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

It was around this time two years ago when an Austin PD oinker killed "Cisco" , a little cattle dog whose owner was having a fun time throwing a frisbee for on his own private property, until Officer Thomas Griffin arrived at the wrong house and shot and killed "Cisco", because he was barked at.

Then shortly afterwards Chief Art Acevedo was whining about the "vile death threats" against the cop.

While the incident got a lot of attention, sadly nobody ever followed up on the threats against the officer .

They feared for life of course. I imagine most police departments' practice targets are their own shadows.

I train my dogs to come to me when ever police are around that way I know they are around and my dogs are safe. I never leave them outside by themselves while I work or if I am going to be gone even though I have a fence it is just not safe for them. They come to me even if they are just driving past the house it is kinda cool knowing when they are near.

My dogs would protect me from anyone but, I will take every precaution to keep them safe as well. I would rather be taken to jail than have one of my babes get killed..

Thats the beauty of CFC, they can go from zero to lethal force in one step and standard procedures are met.

Ours does that too! If she meets a new person who is seated, and they give ANY indication of wanting her on them, all 70 pound vicious pit bull of a dog is INSTANTLY in their lap slobbering up their entire head!

Cassie is a Rott/Lab,, that wants to be a lap dog.

And for being goofy, clumsy, rowdy playful. She can also be amazingly gentle. Cleaning fleas of a small kitten with her teeth.

She will find and crush fleas,, with out harming the kitten, (except for the slobber)
