The public is invited to “Visualize the National Debt” at a Thursday event presented by the University of Hawaii at Hilo Young Americans for Liberty Chapter.

“Thanks to the generous funding of the Leadership Institute, the Young Americans for Liberty chapter at UH-Hilo will be displaying a giant 40-foot-long National Debt Clock on the main campus Library Lanai from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on April 17,” said spokesman Merritt Burch.

“During the day, club members will be collecting signatures for a petition that will be sent to state Sen. Malama Solomon and (state) Rep. Faye Hanohano to create awareness for government spending. We’re trying to create an awareness for the debt. People sometimes find it hard to realize that the $17 trillion of debt is our future and we have to do something about it,” explained Burch, the chapter president.

“We really hope that with this petition we’ll be able to have our senators and representatives address the debt and move towards a positive change.”

As the day goes on, club members will collect signatures from students and people in the community and also change the numbers displayed on the gigantic debt clock so it is a real-time representation of the country’s hourly spending.

In the evening, the club will show the movie “Economic Freedom in Action” and serve light refreshments.

I'm going to try to make this event.
Need some young fresh faces to put some much needed wind in my tyranny-fighting sails -and what better behavior to encourage?

Hope to see some of you there!
