Pellet(airsoft) guns are now "Dangerous Weapons"

A responsible parent would have taught her child gun safety long ago.

By 12 most boys are fully capable, and trustworthy enough, to have their own .22 and a .410 if not heavier bore weapons.

Young boy orders dangerous airsoft gun from Amazon

A mother said her son was able to buy a pellet gun online and wanted a major online retailer to change its policies.

Lisa Brown, of Lebanon, said she received quite a shock when an airsoft gun was delivered to her front doorstep addressed to her 12-year-old son.

"It makes you feel not safe," Brown said.

Brown said she gave her son John permission to order a cell phone case off of Amazon.com using a gift card. She said the boy perused the website on his smartphone when something else caught his eye.

It was a Double Eagle brand M22 Spring Pistol Airsoft gun.

For just $10, Brown said her son was able to purchase the gun instead.

"I was very upset knowing that my 12-year-old son was able to buy a gun online," she said.

She said John learned his lesson that guns of any kind were not allowed in their home.

The type of airsoft gun was classified as a dangerous weapon in Connecticut and buyers must be 18 years old to purchase one.

Brown wanted to know how a 12-year-old was able to get one.

"You definitely would think that there'd be an age limit," she said.

Brown said she called Amazon and told them she wanted to gun out of her house immediately.

She said Amazon told her it came from a third party, Hot Import Toys. The website said it would arrange for them to pick it up.

Three weeks later and the pellet gun was still in her possession.

Some retailers like Sports Authority have a disclaimer on Airsoft guns and won't even ship them to Connecticut.

Eyewitness News reached out of Amazon. It said, "If you are under 18, you may use the Amazon services only with involvement of a parent or guardian."

However, with millions of users, it said age verification was difficult.

Eyewitness News also reached out of Hot Import Toys, but it never responded.

Internet safety expert Scott Driscoll recommended not giving children spending power online.

"Gift cards, you can do them from anywhere," Driscoll said. "And that's a challenge."

Driscoll said it was tough for parents to keep constant tabs on the online activity of children in an increasingly digital world. Keeping a watchful eye on what kids are doing online is essential.

"If it's going to be sent to the home or you're doing an online purchase, we do it together," Driscoll said.

Smartphones like the iPhone have parental control features that can disable online purchases.

Driscoll said parents can also block websites that might be tempting to young shoppers.

High class reporting/media work (as is expected); not a single mention of whose account was used. I'm curious if the kid has his own account or if he used someone else's. If it was his I wonder what the birth date was and if the kid would have been smart enough to fudge it to get around this great law they want implemented to save the children from the assault pellets.

It's a spring-powered gun that advertises that it shoots at 300 fps (meaning it really shoots 200 fps).

Slingshots and blowguns are far more dangerous than that toy, as are lots of other things he can buy like baseballs and bats.

It's only dangerous if a cop sees it,,

but then so is a cell phone, a remote control or a wallet.
Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.

Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual. - Thomas Jefferson
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Ummm, seems like she should be mad at her son, who the hell lets a kid order something off Amazon without checking to see what they're buying. My sons order books off Amazon all the time but there are rules. They put what they want in the cart for me to approve before we buy them. The little pervs keep trying to slip porn books by me.

I have my Grandfather's 12 Ga Excel single shot , 30" barrel , full choke shotgun ( Iver Johnson , made for Montgomery Ward) he bought from a catalog for about the same price in the nineteen teens , I got it reblued in 1988 . It is a beauty , fantastic stock. It is a weapon , an air soft gun is a toy .

I did not check with my parents before I ordered. They would not have cared . I already had similar items and was expected to use them responsibly . Montgomery Ward would not be responsible for my actions , I would.

I preserved my squirrel tails and mailed them into Mepp's too . They gave me credit for fishing lures out of the catalog .LOL, for real

Any kid that has his own credit card is probably responsible enough to own a weapon.
Out of every one hundred men they send us, ten should not even be here. Eighty will do nothing but serve as targets for the enemy. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, upon them depends our success in battle. But one, ah the one, he is a real warrior, and he will bring the others back from battle alive.

Dammit! I didn't know that was possible. And here I wasted my squirrel tails by hanging 'em from my rear view mirror... my hat (just once)... from under my hood... and innumerable times leaving them poking out of the ventilation slits of my friends' high school lockers.

    Hmm.

Now that I think back on it, no wonder some of the kids thought I was weird.
