    Finally! - NC US Senate candidates debate @ 7 p.m. April 22





    • You are invited to attend the U.S. Senate debate with the major Republican candidates at 7 p.m. April 22 . The debate -- sponsored by Time Warner Cable News, The Charlotte Observer and The News and Observer of Raleigh -- will be held in the Duke Family Performance Hall on the campus of Davidson College . It is free of charge, but registration is required.


      Declared Republican candidates Greg Brannon, Heather Grant, Mark Harris and Thom Tillis have agreed to participate based on debate criteria set by Time Warner Cable News North Carolina.


      Capital Tonight anchor Tim Boyum will moderate the hour-long debate prior to the May 6 primary. A three-journalist panel will ask the candidates questions: Charlotte Observer Editorial Page Editor Taylor Batten, N&O Government Reporter Lynn Bonner and Time Warner Cable News Senior Political Reporter Loretta Boniti.


      Time Warner Cable News North Carolina will air the debate live on Channels 14 and 200, in addition to streaming it live on TWCNews.com and via the TWC News app. It will also be live streamed on charlotteobserver.com and newsobserver.com .


      The free event begins at 7 p.m. at Davidson’s Duke Family Performance Hall, located on the lower level of the Knobloch Campus Center, 207Faculty Drive.
      Doors will open at 6 p.m., and a dessert reception will follow the debate. Registration is encouraged. Audience questions will be taken prior to the forum, using the registration form below.

    Do bear in mind that TWC is specifically a Tillis benefactor, and specifically a recipient of Tillis favors.

    And that is the only reason he agreed to this debate. Guaranteed he's gotten them to arrange it in some way that benefits him, either through the format, or the content of the questions.

    Because it's televised, and almost certainly Tillis wouldn't agree to go longer than that.

    4 who are polling at 7% or higher, which is the cutoff for this debate.

    I would think this would boost somebody like Brannon. Am I wrong? Many people liked Ron in the debates but everyone painted him as an extremist. How is the media treating Brannon in North Carolina?

    You can just tell Tillis is a squish from that picture.

    About like you'd expect. Multiple stories about the lawsuit, but those have petered out since multiple polls have shown that it hasn't hurt his support. A few stories about Tillis' pay-to-play business practices have started to trickle out, but the media's been beating up on Brannon for about a month after trying damn hard to ignore him for the last year.
