I just got 2 weeks of work in New Jersey starting Monday.

I just got 2 weeks of work in New Jersey starting Monday. The work is only 6AM to 10AM weekdays, so I will have more free time than I know what to do with. Who all's up there and wants to make NJ less lonely and dull?

Wish I could but I can't -- my County GOP Convention is Saturday, and I have a political meeting in the East on Sunday. I'll be leaving Sunday night to make my first store 6AM on Monday.

ROFL! Similar to my first thought. Seeing as how I've been shooting for years, I am going to detail the truck to make sure I don't have a piece of spent brass casing laying in a cranny somewhere. I hear that gets you death row in NJ.

Working my tail off, getting 5-star reviews with every job, and I can still barely afford to eat. But, I can still afford Ramen noodles on occasion, so clearly we need to import more foreign labor into the IT field or God forbid I will continue to eat.

Pay on the Jersey job is good though. Given cost of living up there it'll be a struggle to make it the first 4 days or so until the revenue starts coming back. One thing I'll be looking for is the cheapest rathole motels I can find where I won't be robbed and mugged.

We are going to try working some of the dates around to make it more efficient, and certainly the last three don't need a 2 week gap. But here is where I'll be.

Each site is 3-4 hours of work starting at crack-o-dawn, but I'm looking at $250 a site which should cover travel food and lodging even in the Garden State.

    EVESHAM NJ 08053 Thursday, April 03, 2014

Drink, it'll help you get through the miserableness that is this state

Looks like your locations are OK for finding cheap areas to sleep that won't risk your safety and/or life.

What do you want me to do, to do for you to see you through?
A box of rain will ease the pain, and love will see you through.

Awesome, thanks! That's actually a big relief. I don't much know the areas to know what is and isn't dangerous, and you can bet I won't be carrying in New Jersey. The Corporate Arby's in your State will be a lot happier for my having been there of course.

Don't stay in Camden jersey city newark or trenton and you probably will survive.

    I hated living in NJ.

If you are the gambling sort, the Atlantic city casinos will give you a free room if you sign up and play long enough, you'll have to ask for it.

Leave your guns at home. NJ gun laws are ridiculous!

I know a guy who is serving 4 years, for having an unloaded gun in a case under his driver's seat.

Lousy time of year to go, nothing on the beach or boardwalk is open yet, weather's still lousy for fishing offshore.

When I lived on the Jersey Shore I loved winter cause I had the place to myself, mostly.

Wheaton Village has a glassmaking foundry and musuem in Millville.

Pretty neat, I used to go there as a kid.

I love that kinda stuff. I've always been the nerd who goes to museums or colonial Williamsburg and such while my friends were more interested in bars.

Thanks, It doesn't appear that I will be in any of those cities. I am not sure why. I can't imagine they don't have Arby's Corporate stores there. Maybe they found local talent for those cities.

I'm not much of a gambler, so I'll be staying at places like Budget Inn, looking around $50-60 a night. I'm probably going to end up taking a hit on my travel cost because I'm supposed to be at my friends wedding on the 11th.

That is absolutely absurd, but yeah I anticipated that. That's why I am making darn sure there aren't any spent casings or loose rounds hanging out in the truck.

Check out The Lobster House when you get to Cape May.

Thanks. That REALLY sounds amazing, actually. That's on day 3, unless the schedule shifts. I'm probably not going to start seeing revenues on this job until day 5, and I'll be shelling out for the gas up and hotel rooms, so it's a pretty good bet I won't be able to afford that. Now if Cape May was say my 6th or 7th store it may be a different story. There is a chance it'll get shuffled since it outside the pack. That sounds amazing, so I hope it does.

It is also a working fish house,I have packed out there countless times.

They have tables outside on the dock where you could get some oysters on the half shell and a beer pretty reasonably.Or just a beer if your really broke.

    This.

IMHO Camden is the worst. I used to run in New Jersey quite a bit, and making pickups and deliveries in Camden always scared the pee outta me. Vineland and a lot of the other south/central towns are actually pretty nice.

If you're driving the turnpike (and if you're not taking your own food) either grab something before you get on or wait until you get off to stop for eats. Those service plazas are expensive!

Only reason I'll be broke is because I'm going to end up paying out about $400 before the checks start rolling in. Once they do it'll be easy street, but the first 4-5 days are going to be tight.

I may also be able to borrow a little money from my family just until the checks start coming and if that's the case I should be able to check it out just fine.

I do want to, because that really does sound amazing.

I second this, although it might break Gunny's tight budget.

Well, looks like you're in luck, according to the website they opne back up on 1 April.

It has to be over 20 years since I've been there, but it appears that the glass foundry is still in full operation.

If you like that kind of thing, you might enjoy Smithville as well.

A little hokey, but they used to have great food back in the day.

    That's in Tuckahoe IIRC.

No matter where you stay, be sure to ask for any available discounts. If you're polite and crank up the charm, most places will offer *some* sort of discount. Heck, see if you can get a AAA 30 day "free trial" membership before you leave... and cancel when you get back...

If you're a soda drinker, toss in a 12 pack of your favorite pop from the supermarket. Most truck stops will sell you a cup of ice for 50 cents... or give you "not charge" ice if you have your own travel mug.

    ..........

But whatever ya do, don't tell "New Jersey" jokes while you're in New Jersey. Like, "Q: Why are New Yorkers always so depressed? Answer: Because the light at the end of THEIR tunnel is New Jersey!"

    ............

Once, I started to tell a "New Jersey" joke to this great big guy I met at a truck stop. He stopped me in mid sentence and said, "Hold it right there, buddy... you may not realize this, but I'M from New Jersey!"

I replied, "I'm glad you told me that! Don't worry... I'll tell it really, really slowly."

Know what? By the time I woke up, I had forgotten the punchline to the joke, dammit.
