Now Google glass can read your emotions

It's not always easy to read someone's emotions -- and that's a problem for retailers, which can't easily tell if their products intrigue you or simply confuse you. They may not have to guess for much longer, though, as Emotient has launched the private beta for a Google Glass app that identifies feelings using the device's camera. The software scans faces for emotional cues that reflect an overall sentiment, even if it's subtle; the app can tell if you're mildly pleased, for instance. Privacy shouldn't be an issue, since the app is only saving anonymous data, not images.

Emotient is testing its app with just a handful of companies right now, but the finished app should help stores please customers in the future. There's also a chance you'll see the underlying technology in something you can try for yourself. The company tells The Next Web that its emotion detection will reach Intel's RealSense platform, so don't be surprised if your next webcam can tell that you're in a good mood.

Oh man, I will totally mess with this given the chance to skew their advertising metrics.

I need an education in US history, from the ground up. Can you help point me to a comprehensive, unbiased, scholarly resource?

That might be kinda handy for going out to the bars and talking to girls, if you could use the technology without having google glasses on.

from the article: "The software scans faces for emotional cues that reflect an overall sentiment, even if it's subtle; the app can tell if you're mildly pleased, for instance."

No, it can't. These technologies are based on algorithms that are imprecise. Making a statement about probabilities as 100% is misguided optimism, sorry reporting, lousy math, and probably all three of those. People make the same silly statements about face recognition technology. These are the same people who tell you that your emotion can be detected by how you're typing on your smart phone, yet millions will be suckered by the marketing. These younger generations are so suckered by technology that somebody should bring back the mood ring and sell it to them.

Cops begin to use google glass to detect potential contempt of cop offenders.

If don't look at them you're hiding something, but if you do look at them you just committed a CoC.

This makes me one want to run a Google Glass through a wood chipper and then ask it if it can tell how I'm feeling.

You think Google is creepy? Google will have Competitors, like Apple:

Facial Recognition Glasses To ‘Stop Crime Before it Happens’

    (sorry, video isnt embedding)

A company has developed glasses that will give users not only an interactive, virtual 3-D display, but also the ability to spot individual faces among a crowd of people, something the company says will aid police in predicting and thwarting “future” crimes.

Capitalizing on the popularity of Apple’s soon-to-be-released techie eyewear, Atheer Labs has created a set of eyeglasses that give users “immersive 3-D,” surrounding them “with information wherever [they] turn and look..”

Similar to Google Glass, the Atheer One, as the glasses are dubbed, connects to the web, streams videos, and can act as a virtual calendar and organizer.

But in a recent interview with CBS Miami, the company’s founder, Allen Yang, touted the glasses as a new crime fighting tool that will give police eerie Minority Report-like future crime awareness.

“In the optimal scenario, [police] can actually get an alert when they’re patrolling on the streets and they can prevent something from happening before even the event happens,” Yang said.

    (continues on this link)
This is ONLY possible if a company knows literally everything about you.

First, you teach a dog to not be afraid of wearing a collar. Then you attach a Leash to the Collar. The dog only ever cares about either the collar or the leash when it is used to control them.

    Information is YOUR Leash.
