"The Patriarch"
I finally got that Michael Huemer book on my Kindle. Just need to set aside the time to finally read it. Sounds great though!
"When it gets down to having to use violence, then you are playing the system's game. The establishment will irritate you - pull your beard, flick your face - to make you fight, because once they've got you violent then they know how to handle you. The only thing they don't know how to handle is non-violence and humor. "

Frankly, I wasn't very impressed. I realize that it's difficult to follow an argument of this complexity in a radio interview, but I thought the examples presented assumed a lot that would be debatable to begin with. For example, if you ask if it is right for someone to do x with respect to my property, it assumes that private property is an absolute right to begin with. Obviously, socialists will give you an argument about that right from the beginning, but so would conservatives (philosophical conservatives, not necessarily American political conservatives), since they contend that the private property right is the product of positive law, not natural law.
Arguments for the state are simple enough and common enough. What institutions would protect us from outside aggression or from our neighbors if we did not have a state or similar institutions very similar to a state? The burden of proof in this issue is on the those who would do away with the state to show how those problems can be dealt with. That, apparently, was the subject of the second half of this guest's book, but they seem never to have gotten around to it in this interview.
Michael Huemer - The Irrationality of Politics
It's just a little skit...
Here, Huemer stimulates discussion to solicit the notion that defending libertarianism is more practical by way of appealling to morality
