Pfizer Falsifies Data for Suicide-Linked Anti-Smoking Drug, Gets Away with Murder

    December 15th, 2013

A risky psychotropic drug known as varenicline is used as a smoking cessation drug by Pfizer and sold as Chantix in the USA and Champix internationally. It has left a trail of dead bodies, literally. How? Often in the form of suicide, and sometimes homicide.

Approved by the FDA in May 2006, Pfizer’s patent for Chantix/Champix has stirred up over a billion dollars in annual sales. Unfortunately, its effectiveness was highly exaggerated by flawed study results. Even worse, many extreme adverse reports were camouflaged by obscuring minor side effects with more serious ones, which include suicidal and homicidal thinking and behavior.

Hiding Stats to Appear Less Dangerous

It wasn’t until the non-profit organization Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) discovered and tracked the camouflaged serious adverse effect reports that a truer picture emerged.

After analyzing the data, ISMP scientist Thomas Moore noted that there was ” … a major breakdown in safety surveillance”. Serious adverse effects were camouflaged by mixing them in with the usual minor adverse reports of nausea, constipation, and rashes.

Those hidden adverse effects were serious enough for some to commit suicide or violently attack others. There were almost 600 similar events buried among the 26,000 less serious adverse reports since 2006. Once the buried reports were isolated, the total suicide count went from 122 to 272.

Moore also commented in the issue of Journal of Pharmacotherapy on how Chantix/Champix (varenicline) tends to unleash something in people that can cause sudden violent reactions at anytime toward self or others.

There were also several reported injuries from accidents, mostly automobile, which occurred during periods of fogginess or dizziness. Many others experienced deeper depressions than usual while taking Pfizer’s Chantix.

The side effects listed in the consumer’s box are far fewer and less serious than the information distributed to prescribing doctors (black box) in 2009, three years after FDA approval. Only five relatively minor side effects were listed on the drug’s package for consumers, but there are actually 160. Click the link and scroll down the page to see the whole list.

One section of the doctors’ list of side effects warns of “Serious Neuropsychiatric Events”, with the caveat that doctors should inform patients to report to them if they are experiencing extreme depression or thinking of suicide or murder.

There have been over 1500 injury cases against Pfizer’s malfeasance in Federal Court, including a suit from the parents of a murder/suicide married couple, all made possible from ISMPs due diligence and discovery.

Here is just one man’s experience with Chantix.

But It’s All Okay with the FDA

The FDA admitted off the record that Pfizer`s smoking cessation drug’s side effects are worse than expected compared to Pfizer`s original trial study reports. And in 2012 after millions of USA smokers were prescribed Chantix, the FDA had Pfizer do a cardiovascular risk study on Chantix users.

It was determined that Chantix users had higher risks of non-lethal heart attacks and strokes. The FDA simply added those potential side effects and stood on its original approval.

Bottom line: Big Pharma pays the FDA fees for their approvals. Sincere healers who discover unique remedies, a single death allegedly from an often used herb, and dairy farmers who provide raw milk don’t pay for approvals, so they get raided, taken off the market, and busted while FDA’s Big Pharma clients just keep selling.

That’s why it’s called the Medical Mafia.

Oh definitely. I have know many people who quit smoking successfully using e-cigs. It's ultimately a war on us.

Where is the evidence for any of this? I don't doubt there's at least some truth to it, but the sources of this are laughable. Why is it that if the conspiracy is as vast and as obvious as it's supposed to be, everything that we know demands we depend on nothing but opinion pieces?

    Which study?

What does this even mean - they hid minor side effects behind serious ones? Why would they bother to do that?

The FDA continues to monitor drugs after they've been released, which is more than the snake-oil sellers can claim. Don't like them, don't take them. Nobody is twisting your arm.

All I asked was where is the proof that the original data was falsified, as DonnaY's headline once again screams something that doesn't actually seem to be in the article.

What if one day Herbs were all of a sudden called Drugs. And then actual Drugs- made by people wearing white coats in labs owned by companies with "patents" and huge budgets for lawyers - were all of a sudden called "medicine". And then the natural Herbs were made illegal- so commoners would be forbidden to treat themselves- or even possess these natural substances. And then these new "medicines" would only be available to commoners with permission slips -that are only obtainable from licensed Doctors after a hefty fee is charged- providing complete control over distribution.

It would be like legislating a medical gold mine.

Of course, the companies in on this gold mine wouldn't stop there, with laws guaranteeing them monopolies. They would then bribe officials around the world to expand these legal monopolies. They would pay their CEO's millions and millions of dollars per year, because these Corporate Kings/Thug Criminals knew how to get things done.

Next, perhaps these companies can buy politicians to make their "medicines" mandatory. It worked for the insurance companies. Americans these days do what they're told. Compliance Rules in the Land of the Free. Commoners silly enough to protest the next phase can be ridiculed and shunned- and then literally forced to consume. A compliant herd is a happy herd.

A proposal to end this madness

I don't know about falsification or other nefarious goings on, but the awful side-effects of this drug have been known for over five years. Many of my mom's friend's had trouble with it and it was around that time it became obvious that the side-effects were more common than many had been led to believe.

And it is encouraging to note that the FDA had already modified the warning to include these side effects a year (2009) before the under reporting was discovered. (2010).

So they didn't actually find anything they had not been told about, or didn't already know about.

Pfizer told the FDA that it thought stronger warnings were not necessary, and said “it was not
unexpected” to see psychiatric side effects among smokers, and in particular those who might be
experiencing nicotine withdrawal. [22] The FDA disagreed after completing its own analysis of
the adverse event data [23] [24] and in July 2009 required strong warnings for both doctors and
    patients. [25]
Seems odd that the FDA would overrride Pfizer if the FDA was only doing what they were getting paid by Pfizer to do.

Had the same thing with Celebrex. Once it came out that the science had almost all been faked, everybody I knew who was taking the drug could have told you it was about as effective as a placebo.
