Report on Justin Amash's town hall in Battle Creek

On the cusp of a possible U.S. military strike against Syria, one of its most fierce opponents reaffirmed his stance to Battle Creek residents: Congress must approve war, he said, and he would not support it.

“The Constitution and the War Powers Resolution do not permit the president to go to war,” said U.S. Rep. Justin Amash, “which is attack another country, without congressional authorization.”

During his third visit to Battle Creek in about two months, the Cascade Township Republican told constituents during a coffee hour and a town hall Wednesday that Syria’s alleged use of chemical weapons did not pose an imminent threat against the U.S. — and that President Obama was only allowed to authorize defensive, not offensive, action.

So Amash, you condone the use of chemical weapons on men, woman and children as being just ok with you as long as you can vote for the 41st time to defund Obama care and deny 30 million citizens their right to affordable, quality health care. I get it. You hate working people but billionaires are ok with you.

That's odd. I don't think Battle Creek is in his district.

Can't exactly refute them on the part on Amash and other Republicans voting for the umpteenth time on repealing the Affordable Care Act. The action has pretty much become a running joke when folks talk about the 'do-nothing Congress.'

Considering the threat of a do-something congress, I much prefer a do-nothing congress. I want men and women who will drag their feet rather just get along with socialism.

Given how a lot of folks would prefer things actually get accomplished rather than obstructionism to the level of hostage taking, the comment on the article isn't exactly unwarranted. Let's face it, folks just see it as validating claims that the GOP has a thirst for confrontation and repudiation of compromise as opposed to cautious and prudential conservatism.
