Thread: StartPage.com search engine.

  1. #1

    Default StartPage.com search engine.

I think I've heard it mentioned here before but didn't know what it meant.

    https://startpage.com/

Anyway the way the lady on television explained it is it's a search engine that you go to that doesn't track where you go or what you do. She said even if some agency tried to get them to cough up records they couldn't because they don't keep any.

Anyway you go through them. They forward to Google and then send the information back.

I'm not sure if is worth the trouble really. The National Security Agency would probably have a record of you going there and coming back. You can use a secure connection that they probably have a back door for.

    Still.

You can add it to your Foxfire search engine list.

Well, it's certainly a more memorable name than Ixquick.

    I will second that.
Once you go Paul, you see through them all.

Startpage is great. They are getting ready to offer a email which I am patiently waiting for.

BTW, the woman's name is Katherine Albrecht from CASPIAN who promotes Startpage.

My understanding is that startpage.com is a "front end" for the results you would get just from Google alone - whereas ixquick.com is for the results you would get from some other (non-Google) search engines.

"A free man must be able to endure it when his fellow men act and live otherwise than he considers proper. He must free himself from the habit, just as soon as something does not please him, of calling for the police." -- Ludwig von Mises, Liberalism (p. 55)

"The evil that a man inflicts on his fellow man injures both - not only the one to whom it is done, but also the one who does it. Nothing corrupts a man so much as being an arm of the law and making men suffer. The lot of the subject is anxiety, a spirit of servility and fawning adulation; but the pharisaical self-righteousness, conceit, and arrogance of the master are no better. [...] The criminal has incurred the penalties of the law, but not the hate and sadism of the judge, the policeman, and the ever lynch-thirsty mob." -- Ludwig von Mises, Liberalism (p. 58) [bold emphasis added]

    Yes Startpage works well.
Funny, however, that so many links that consistently appear near the top of a google search don't show up on a Startpage search...

I think it's great that the search engine has doubled it's user base. I've used it for years. Too many searches are manipulated with Google for a number of different reasons. I'm sure many here know what I mean by that.

I imagine they strip out the paid search result placement.

The people involved with Ixquick/startpage are the first ones to man up and challenge some of the most dangerous tyranny that seldom reaches these pages. And in person. It doesn't reach them because doers get things done and talk about it later.

Inspired by US Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, this site is dedicated to facilitating grassroots initiatives that aim to restore a sovereign limited constitutional Republic based on the rule of law, states' rights and individual rights. We seek to enshrine the original intent of our Founders to foster respect for private property, seek justice, provide opportunity, and to secure individual liberty for ourselves and our posterity.

One of the other engineers put me on Startpage back in the late 90s. I've been using it ever since.
