    Seeking Galt's Gulch

    http://www.lewrockwell.com/2013/03/j...g-galts-gulch/

If ever there were a time that a Galt’s Gulch should be created by those seeking an escape from bureaucracy, it would be now. Certainly those of us who reside outside Europe and America are seeing an influx of people seeking to escape the countries that were at one time regarded as "the best place in the world."

So, what we are seeing is individuals and families that are, in effect, economic refugees, each hoping to find a better place than they are leaving. The concept of a purpose-built community for libertarians is, however, a less likely development; yet, some do exist.

One is Cafayate, an upscale community that is being created by Doug Casey in Salta, Argentina. For those who may not be familiar with it, it is well away from the capitol, Buenos Aires, and therefore, hopefully, removed from much of the political influence of Argentine governments, which have been serially corrupt and dysfunctional. Plans for Cafayate include golf, polo, good restaurants and locally-made wines. An upscale community hoping to attract like-minded people.

Another community is developing in Chile and seems to have a strong focus on self-sustainability – organically-grown meats, fruits, and vegetables, plus grapes for the making of wine. It is based on a large, existing farm and house lots are now for sale.

Sounds like GrannyWarrior found a buyer for her arid, waterless patch of West Texas where she was planning on getting rich via the same sort of scheme a few years ago.

If anyone has never been to Chile and wants to meet people that currently/have lived there, there is a meetup in Manchester, NH on the night of December 27. A family led by a crazy man that constantly moves around currently lives there but will be in Manchester for the holiday and are interested in talking to people about their current residence. PM me for details.

Amanda Billyrock lived in Chile for a little while but has since relocated to NH. You can contact her via Youtube, Facebook or Twitter. Or come to NH and ask her question at dozens of events. Anyway, at Porcfest 2013 she gave a speech which included some details of her visit to Chile. The Chile part starts at 13:45 into this video.

I listened to Berwick give a speech about this place.

He seemed pretty reasonable about it being under government control. He focused on the fact that it's about attracting like-minded people together.
I'm definitely not throwing my money down for it but I could see it developing into a thriving community.
Berwick seems like a fine (and committed salesman.) I say that in a good and bad way.

Lets see how long Chile's new Socialist president will allow this.

With strong support from the Communist Party, self-styled “Socialist” Michelle Bachelet cruised to a widely anticipated victory in a run-off vote for the Chilean presidency.

Freedom, Prosperity Threatened in Chile With Election of Socialist

    The New American
    16 December 2013

After securing the greatest number of votes in the first round of Chile’s presidential election last month with strong support from the Communist Party, self-styled “Socialist” Michelle Bachelet cruised to a widely anticipated victory in a run-off vote for the Chilean presidency held December 15. The former defector to the mass-murdering Soviet bloc, who took refuge under the brutal Communist regime ruling East Germany, is hoping to replace Chile’s freedom-preserving constitution with one that allows government to take over everything from healthcare to higher education.

According to analysts, with the “deep reforms” promised by Bachelet, the foundation of Chilean liberty and prosperity are now under threat. Latin America more broadly, meanwhile, has been almost completely conquered by a tightly knit network of communist and socialist forces working to impose tyranny on the people of the region. However, whether Bachelet will succeed in her quest to re-shape the most prosperous and successful nation on the continent remains to be seen, and opposition to the plan is growing.

“Chile, one of the few remaining bastions of freedom in Latin America, is in danger of going communist,” noted anti-communist author and analyst Trevor Loudon. “Can the U.S. afford to lose yet another friend? Can the West afford to lose Chile — one of the most strategically situated nations in the world? The encirclement rolls on.” Along with numerous other experts on the region and communism, Loudon argues that the ongoing socialist takeover of Latin America represents a major threat to the United States and freedom.

She should encourage it. These folks are likely paying more in taxes than locals. So the more of them, the better. They don't have the right to vote or anything. And if they ever become really rich, the government can either take their money or nationalize their businesses. It seems like a win-win.

You have to pay taxes in Galt's Gulch? I thought Galt's Gulch was anarcho-capitalist. I guess not.

You're kidding right? She'll just nationalize the whole thing, kick all the foreigners out and let her followers live there.

You would have to be incredibly stupid or gullible to spend even a dime on this deal.

I would be there tomorrow if I could afford it; and not fly !!! I think the greatest gift Americans could leave the world is to "NOT FLY" .. Stop getting bitch raped by TSA. Destroy the airline industry by boycotting, and King Huessien Obama will stop his rape in order for the airlines to prosper.

You are complete idiot to allow these thugs to photograph you, or your children naked in order to see Granny on Thanksgiving.. Stop flying, boycott, destroy the airline industry; and you will see the TSA end.

It sucks that Galt's Gulch Chile is a scam. While it has perhaps only 1,000th of the notoriety that the Free State Project has, it was still one of the better known alternative ideas that came about after the Free State Project.

It's very high. I've seen three bedroom homes on the beech in the $50,000. range. These guys are trying to make a killing off this property.

It is especially expensive when you get nothing to show for the money you spend. That's what Galt's Gulch Chile appears to be, it seems.

Not gonna happen. Air travel is just too essential. If the TSA started to regulate car travel, would you stop using your car, too? The problem is that we don't think actual revolution is a possibility because that's the only way it's ever going to happen. Limiting your travel because of this is essentially letting them win, and let's face it, not enough people are ever going to boycott flying just to make a point. Doing so would be to sacrifice one's quality of life for absolutely no reward. Nobody's going to sacrifice said quality of life just for the principle of it. Believe it or not, there are people who are just not content staying in one place their whole lives.

Couldn't disagree more. I'm 30 years old and I've never even been on one of the damned things. Who wants to spend 8 to 12 hours locked in a hermetically sealed feedback loop of communicable diseases, whining children, and human flatulence? Traveling by sea is the only dignified way to move intercontinentally, even if it takes longer. And if you're stuck in a job where you're just expected to constantly subject yourself to the many indignities of air travel just to help some six-figure pencil-pusher reach his bottom line, you've probably got bigger problems than just how to book a trip.

"When it gets down to having to use violence, then you are playing the system's game. The establishment will irritate you - pull your beard, flick your face - to make you fight, because once they've got you violent then they know how to handle you. The only thing they don't know how to handle is non-violence and humor. "
