Israel warns Russia against giving Syria missiles

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel's defense chief said Tuesday a Russian plan to supply sophisticated anti-aircraft missiles to Syria was a "threat" and signaled that Israel is prepared to use force to stop the delivery.

The warning by Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon ratcheted up tensions with Moscow over the planned sale of S-300 air-defense missiles to Syria. Earlier in the day, a top Russian official said his government remained committed to the deal.

Israel has been lobbying Moscow to halt the sale, fearing the missiles would upset the balance of power in the region and could slip into the hands of hostile groups, including the Lebanese militia Hezbollah, a close ally of the Syrian regime.

Can someone please page John McCain so he can go hang out with the "Syrian rebels?" Maybe that will help.

My apologies if this was posted already.

Israel wants to ramp up a new proxy war. I should have mentioned it's an AP story... so meant for large consumption.

    Let me get this straight.

It's okey dokey for the U.S. government to arm the allies of Al Qaeda in Syria.

But, NOT ok for Russia to arm the duly-elected government of Syria.

    Do I have that right?

Syria had opened doors for Iraqi Arab Christian refugees that had to flee bloodbath of Opoeration Iraqi Freedom and is friendly to local arab christians. Not sure if that is the main reason Syria became a target for neocon groups that sometimes are called Obama regime's puppet masters but this policy is being supported by both right and left wing neocons. There is nothing straight about this though.

Withdraw all government aid to foreign countries, then let Israel do whatever they like. If they want to attack Russia by themselves, I hope they have fun.

Without US supplied weapons and military/financial aid, they won't be able to keep occupation of Palestinians or blockade of Gaza for a week let alone face Russia.

I wonder just how long we're willing to stand with Israel...

I hope the big boys with their military toys up in Washington take a hint and distance themselves from this insanity. Israel is talking a big game that it cannot back up without our help, and we certainly don't need Israel to drag us into anymore wars, not that we're doing a good job at that by ourselves.

And I hope Israel stops being insane and backs down.

If we weren't there to back them up, they wouldn't have even said a word about Russia delivering these missiles.

Russia has simply decided they've had enough of sitting idly by while the U.S. plays the "regime change" game. And folks, this is why we aren't going to war with Iran or North Korea (allied with China). Sure we could take out Saddam and Khaddafi but those two buffoons were dumb enough to ally themselves with the U.S. Syria hedged their bests and kept a strong alliance with Russia on the table. So what does our reckless foreign policy mean for the future? Simply. Every strong man in the world with half a brain is now on the phone to the Kremlin to try to cut some kind of a security arrangement. The rest are too stupid to realize they will eventually be backstabbed by one U.S. president or the next.

Russia will likely jump in with more aid once the aid frm the US starts flowing to the rebels. Russia does not want to lose a critical ally which offers them their only naval base in the Mediterranean.

Here is what I don't get about what's going on over there. I thought Israel and the United States are the number 1 enemy over there. If the US and Israel step in, wouldn't that cause the rebels to LOSE support?

If these Assad can effectively deploy those S-300's, it will be a blood bath over there for the rebels. People in the region will be chomping at the bit to get a piece of American and Israel fighters and their sympathizers (the rebels) will they not? Especially if the S-300's can diminish some of NATO's air advantage.

It's a dangerous chess game of shady alliances. Saudi dictatotship regime, Qatari dictator, Israel, US and Al Qaedi linked "rebels" aka "freedom fighters slash terrorists" seem to have allied in the "enemy of my enemy is my friend" way against Christian friendly secular Syrian government. Vast majority of public on the street in arab countries would see Israel and anyone supporting her one of their biggest enemies.

It is nothing new, before 9/11 in the radical jihad against Russianm infidels in Afghanistan, Israel was the second largest supplier of weapons to jihadi militants behind US. After 9/11, those kind of alliances were supposed to be not happening again but they are. Obama puppt masters have been pretty vague about their 'divide and conquer' civil wars laced game plan about mideast.
