That’s how the Ron Paul group came together. It started on the Internet and then with a face-to-face gathering of about 10 people three months ago. Now, the membership is more than 100, from conservatives to people with a more liberal voting background, like Lukens, who is 25.

After the initial trash pickup, she said they plan a social to raise money to help the homeless, and to bring more attention to Paul’s candidacy.

“Part of Ron Paul’s message is we can’t rely on the federal government to take care of us from cradle to grave,” Lukens said. “We believe strongly that individuals, when they empower themselves, should change their community for the better.”
