Is he running for MEP in 2014?
He can be members of both unless he resigns one and unless that rule has changed.

Yeah he said he'll be standing for MEP so he's going for both.
So if he wins his Westminster seat he will either resign as an MEP or just fill out the term. It's a bit of a work load though.
The pay and perks are better in Europe so he might not want to give that up.

Wait, what is the difference between MP and MEP?
New to liberty?

MP is in the British Lower House, the House of Commons (equivalent to a State House seat here), MEP is in the European Union Lower House, the European Parliament (equivalent to a US House seat here). It's easier to become an MEP, as the elections are done with proportional representation (while MP elections are done as they are here in the US, except without the primaries), so generally MP is a better regarded position, especially for Farage, as the House of Commons is the only place where he can lead the charge to secede from the EU.

We're assuming Farage would have a chance at MP in the first place. Looking at his past races, he isn't getting in unfortunately. A few other UKIP'ers might, but the problem is that they'll probably be nutters.

Farage is UKIP's strongest candidate and their best chance at getting an MP. He has very high name recognition and is fairly popular. I think he could stand a chance in the constituency where UKIP won 10 out of the 11 councillors representing the town of Boston at the local elections and then became the official opposition in Lincolnshire county.
LOL, I was hoping it was a typo and he was running for PM.

In order to become Prime Minister or a Minister of the crown and more visible in UK politics one has to be a member of the British Parliament (MP).
It's a hard nut to crack because they have to win First past the post in gerrymandered districts like the US House. It's like the Libertarian Party trying to break in... very hard but you've got to start somewhere and for him he likes to stand for the UK parliament and campaign win or lose.
