An effort to stop Indiana's participation in the national Common Core education standards got new life Wednesday.
An amendment inserted into House Bill 1427 revives language from Senate Bill 193 that requires new public hearings on Common Core and a new vote of the Indiana State Board of Education to reconsider its adoption of the standards. The bill passed the Senate 37-13.
"This is a national effort," said Sen. Scott Schneider, R-Indianapolis, who authored the Common Core language that was inserted into the bill. "There are states around the country that are taking a second look at this."
