Nebraska looking into Common Core standards

The Nebraska State Board of Education in March made the decision to begin an alignment study of the current state standards and the Common Core standards. Common Core is an education initiative that seeks to bring each state's curricula into alignment with each other.

Sen. Jim Scheer of Norfolk, vice chairman of the Education Committee in the Nebraska Legislature, recently introduced Legislative Bill 512, which would allow the state board of education to vote to adopt Common Core standards if it so choses, instead of leaving it up to the Legislature.
