The Federal Aviation Administration said Friday that it would shutter 149 airport control towers early next month, including six in Maryland and Virginia.

The announcement, which affects mostly small airports, follows the mandatory federal spending cuts that went into effect earlier this month.

Well, let's see. The Navy won't stop building new aircraft carriers, or even slow down on their construction, but will loudly tell anyone who will listen that they won't be refuelling existing aircraft carriers.

Nah, couldn't be a scare tactic. Threatening to have airliners crashing into each other with no mention of slowing down the construction of underpasses for endangered species or suspending studies on the mating habits of marmasets? Nah, no scare tactics here. Just as has been mentioned, carefully considered priorities at work.
