Get a Dr. James Dobson Endorsement

This would crush Huckabee's campaign, which is well and good considering he's really liberal. An endorsement here through a press conference could give us a win in Iowa.
Ron Paul's heart is made out of gold. This greatly upsets the Federal Reserve.

He might lean towards the war, but he has fought his entire life to try and have RvW overturned. We need to present the cold hard facts about Ron Paul's record and how he will overturn RvW by legalizing the Constitution. That would be my bet as the best way to reach Dobson. Don't even MENTION the war, stick to the abortion issue, AND follow that up with Ron Paul's family history, marriage of 50 years, and the quote from ROn Paul's letter to Christians where he says:

I have never been one who is comfortable talking about my faith in the political arena. In fact, the pandering that typically occurs in the election season I find to be distasteful. But for those who have asked, I freely confess that Jesus Christ is my personal Savior, and that I seek His guidance in all that I do. I know, as you do, that our freedoms come not from man, but from God. My record of public service reflects my reverence for the Natural Rights with which we have been endowed by a loving Creator.- Ron Paul

I think his issues are a Constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman, and support in principle for a federal law or Constitutional amendment defining life as beginning at conception.

Who knows how set he is on those, but Congressman Paul seems to be pretty shaky on anything on either of these issues beyond returning them to the states and stripping federal courts of jurisdiction (to overturn state law) in these areas.

But Michael Peroutka of the Constitution Party has already officially endorsed Ron Paul.

And John Lofton has come about as close as he is ever going to anyone, to endorsing Ron Paul.

This should have some weight with Dobson, or at least give him some room.

But Dobson has a lot invested in the Drug War and and in the War on Terror, and I think him endorsing Congressman Paul would at the very least take swallowing quite a bit of pride.

And if you listen to the full theamericanview.com Ron Paul interview, you will hear that Congressman Paul does consider late term abortion to be clearly murder, and he tentatively says he considers abortion from conception onward to be murder, although legally a lesser degree of murder than late term abortion.

So for all practical purposes, he is there with them on these issues, and he has the traditional conservative fiscal policies to go along with them.

We know he has serious problems with Huckabee. And we know he will not go for McCain, Thompson, Giuliani, or Romney.

I think it would be great if he were to endorse Paul, but I don't think he is going to endorse anyone until the Republican nominee is clear, and then he'll decide whether he can endorse the nominee, or whether he endorses a third party candidate or endorses no one. That's my take.

    Why won't Dobson support Huckabee?

It would also crush a lot of Ron Paul's civil libertarian cred.

Not really. Plus there are way more social conservatives out there and I'm a libertarian Christian...

We need to pressure him fast before he endorses Huckabee.

    Real THREAD ENDER.

Dobson has said numerous times that he will not endorse a candidate during the primaries.

    He doesn't, and he won't.

So anyone trying to get an endorsement now is just wasting their time.

The man knows how powerful his endorsement could be, he's not going to waste it prematurely on someone who may not get the nomination.

I agree that the war isn't right from a Christian perspective, but I think many of the Christians who support it do so because they think we are protecting the Iraqis, or helping them develop their country. They don't consider that occupation directly causes retaliatory violence and destabilization, or how we would view our own foreign policy if another country tried it on us. In short, I don't think many are frauds necessarily, many just haven't really thought through the whole thing through, or taken the time to develop a consistant foreign policy philosophy. I guess I'm kind of reluctant to use the word fraud when ignorance is so often the real culprit.

I contacted him by email and told him that RP seemed to be a perfect match due to Dr. Paul's family values and pro-life stance.

I received an answer saying that he could not officially endorse anyone. But that his personal position was to back the "lesser of two evils". That is right! You could have knocked me over. . . .

    I was pretty disgusted. . .

I've been in this type of thread already..... has anyone said "Who needs Dobson approval?" yet?

We need everyone's vote Damn it!

    Won't Happen

The only way Jim Dobson will endorse Ron Paul is if Ron wins the GOP nomination, and even then it will be with reservations.

Dobson and Paul disagree on drugs, pornography, gay marriage, death penalty, foreign policy, government secrecy, religion in government, and probably more.

Those of you who come from the religious right know who Franky Schaeffer is, son of Francis Schaeffer. In his new book, he said James Dobson is, "the most power hungry and ambitious person I have ever met."

The antithesis of Ron Paul in my opinion.

Thank you so much for sending your comments concerning 2008 election. It’s a privilege to get back to you regarding what you shared.

At the outset, in order to ensure that you have the best information available on Dr. Dobson’s perspective about the matters you’ve raised, we suggest you read his opinion piece titled “The Values Test,” which was first published in the _New York Times_ on October 4. It can be found on Focus on the Family Action’s _CitizenLink_ Web site at http://www.citizenlink.org/content/A000005632.cfm. Dr. Dobson also addressed this topic during a speech at the Washington Briefing on October 20. A transcript of his remarks can be accessed online by going to http://listen.family.org/miscdaily/A000000775.cfm.

As you are aware, some individuals have suggested it’s necessary to vote for the “lesser of two evils” in the event that both major parties nominate pro-abortion presidential candidates. We understand that not everyone agrees with Dr. Dobson’s approach to this scenario. While we affirm that each person must cast their ballot according to the dictates of their own conscience, we believe Dr. Dobson would say that as long as there are pro-life candidates available -- of whatever party -- we must do what we can to support them.

It’s also important to stress that at the present time, before the primary election season has even begun, there are still major candidates running who uphold the pro-life view. As the primary elections unfold, we’ll see which individuals emerge for the major parties. Dr. Dobson will be further evaluating his position at that juncture, although we can confidently state that he will not change his view about the “lesser of two evils” strategy. Dr. Dobson believes this approach is also a matter of calculated long-term political advantage. If we yield on such a fundamental issue by supporting the least objectionable of two pro-abortion candidates, we give party leaders no incentive to defend the pro-life position.

In sum, we maintain that a candidate’s positions on “non-negotiable issues” simply must take precedent over other considerations. For more information, we invite you to take a look at a paper titled “Non-Negotiable Issues: Focus on the Family’s Encouragement to Christian Voters.” It explains some of the factors we believe are key in determining a viable candidate. You can find it online at http://www.family.org/sharedassets/c...ian_Voters.pdf.

Regardless of differences of opinion on this matter, we hope all Christians will join us in praying at this critical juncture in our nation’s history. With so many values we hold dear hanging in the balance, believers must pray unceasingly for our land. This is truly a period in which we need wisdom and strength from the Lord as we seek to uphold biblical righteousness in a hostile culture.

You also shared a few thoughts regarding Ron Paul's candidacy. We should point out that Focus on the Family is prohibited by IRS guidelines from endorsing candidates. Focus on the Family Action, a 501(c)(4) organization, is allowed greater latitude in that area, but we’ve generally refrained from so doing.

It’s worth mentioning, as well, that if Dr. Dobson were to endorse a presidential candidate, he would do so as a private individual and not in his capacity as Chairman of the Board of Focus or Focus Action. To this point, Dr. Dobson has not backed anyone for the 2008 election.

Again, thanks for taking a moment to express your concerns. Please be assured that we’ve passed your remarks along. In the meantime, you may wish to read an interview _CitizenLink_ recently conducted with Gary Schneeberger, our Vice President of Media Relations. It can be accessed online at http://www.citizenlink.org/content/A000005698.cfm. God bless you!

yup; a close Christian friend of mine was really angry, and send Mr. Dobson an e-mail (not a hate e-mail, as my friend isn't like that....if anything it was probably very well thought out), either way, they basically gave him the IRS crap there too and wrote him off--it's a real shame. I don't think we need Dobson's say to win; I just view it as a major boost to Ron's campaign (for the primaries). Sadly, it sounds like he's going to sit on his hands and do nothing

it's a real shame; at the very heart of the Bible and Christianity is a Libertarian philosophy...heck, "way back when" this was the more mainstream idea....until wolves in sheep's clothing (aka, a lot of preachers) started distorting the Word of God and interpreting it for the people, instead of letting the Holy Spirit do that.

It's just a shame--take the conservatives, GOP, and Christians from yester-year and Ron Paul wouldn't just be a candidate, but an 00ber-candidate.

But let's not let that get us down; keep up the good fight; try to contact Dobson directly and explain Ron's positions and why he has that stance; you never know; if Dobson is a true believer in Christ, he'll go to the Lord with it...and I'm fairly confident to say I know who the Lord will reveal Dobson should endorse.

Dobson is completely wretched. Our newspaper had to deal with him and is far off gibberish. Let him endorse Huck; keep all the bible-baning psychobabble in one camp.
