Open seats for US Congress 2014

Here is a list of open seats for the 2014 US Congress including special elections. I will keep it updated to the best of my ability. This site should help us keep up to date. Hopefully this will keep us focused on some winnable races. I've included the Cook Partisan Voting Index to help determine which party the electorate favors in the respective district.

With the help of RPF members, I would also like to keep a list of Republicans that are vulnerable during primary. I would like to give credit to CaptLouAlbano for insights. With time I may list our chosen liberty candidate alongside the open/vulnerable seat.

    US House
Georgia 10th, Paul Broun(R), R14 -- running for US Senate
Iowa 1st, Bruce Braley(D), D5 -- running for US Senate
Massachusetts 5th, Ed Markey(D), D16 -- running for US Senate
Massachusetts 8th, Stephen Lynch(D), D9 -- running for US Senate
Missouri 8th, Jo Ann Emerson(R), R13 -- resigned, special election June 4th, candidates nominated by party committee
South Carolina 1st, Tim Scott(R), R11 -- running for US Senate
West Virginia 2nd, Shelley Moore Capito(R), R8 -- running for US Senate

    US Senate
    Georgia, Saxby Chambliss(R), R7
    Iowa, Tom Harkin(D), D1
    Nebraska, Mike Johanns(R), R13
    New Jersey, Frank Lautenberg(D), D4
    Michigan, Carl Levin(D), D4
    West Virginia,Jay Rockefeller(D), R8
Massachusetts, John Kerry(D), D12 --special election June 25th

There will probably be two more GA GOP seats(likely Gingrey and Kingston) opening up, just a heads up.

We have almost no chance in those races. Our best shots (out of your list) is Iowa-1 and Georgia-10. (excluding SC-1, which we are guaranteed to win, be it Sanford or Grooms)

There is a list of selected races with analysis here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_...lected_results

Some that jump out at me are the Dem seats that are ranked across the board as tossups: AZ-1, AZ-2, FL-18, and NH-1.

Johnson in OH-6 might be a good one to primary. It looks like a safe CD, and Johnson's voting record is pretty poor (30% Freedomworks 2012, 65% JBS 112th, 65% CFG lifetime)

Same with Meehan in PA-7. McKeon in CA-25, etc.

Don't know about Johnson in OH-6, he's my Congressman. It's actually a swingy blue-dog/coal kind of district, which Ted Strickland represented for about a decade before being governor. Then Charlie Wilson had the seat for 2 terms before being unseated by Johnson in 2010. Johnson beat Wilson 53-46 in the rematch this year, and Wilson just had a stroke while in Florida, so I think his political career is likely over. Don't think any Dem will rise up by 2014, but Johnson seems pretty up there in years, he'll probably retire in the next 8-10 years. I'll probably go to my county's Lincoln dinner just to listen to his keynote address.

Thanks for the local intel. I was just reading into it "on paper" and seeing how it looked.

Yeah, I've been disappointed with some of Johnson's votes. Maybe I'll try and get a few words with him in a few weeks.

State Rep. Joe Carr looks like a good candidate. Not sure if he's a liberty candidate, but he seems to be pretty good.

He proposed a gun control law ban (banning gun control laws in TN): http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/0...n_2491028.html
