Default So what's up with all these Russian Dashboard Cameras?

Corruption is rampant in the Russian Federation,
    and that’s led most motorists
to take matters into their own hands.
When almost everyone is stuck with liability coverage only,
no one is keen to take responsibility for an accident.
Hit-and-runs and straight up lying about the cause of a crash are extremely common.

It does not require a majority to prevail,
but rather an irate, tireless minority keen
to set brush fires in peoples minds

So funny you made a thread about this. That was my first reaction to the meteorite impact earlier this week!

Dang! Does everyone in Russia drive around with dash cams?

Those dashcams seem like a good idea - a free market solution to a problem many people don't even thnk about here in the USA.

Russia might be a lot more "real" than America is in this car insurance accident claim area; personal responsibility versus faith in "our system" that is supposed to magically protect us. Ignorant faith meets reality when the other driver has a better lawyer or political "connections" that mitigate their guilt in court, or the insurance payout is hampered by pushback based on technicalities. These dashcams might remove all that crap from the process and boil it down to the facts with proof of what really happened. At least for now that is; at some point in the future, those videos may even be tampered with and altered by a high end graphics production house hired to create a false CGI reality of what did not happen. Maybe that's solved with even MORE cameras...

In some states, it might lead to additional legal issues with audio recording of a police "encounter", etc. On the other hand, it's worth several times its weight in gold if it proves your own innocence or nails that other driver 100% for causing the accident.

There are many choices of camera brand, model and features. They start under $30. Reliability seems to be a common complaint on low price end, so you might need to buy/operate a pair of 'em for BU redundancy (or 3D!). Why are there so few reviews on some of them? I used to read complaints about low light performance, but the expectation of low noise night vision seems to have faded into the background...

Hi end $333 model (see reviews).

It might still require another small hidden camera (or two) to record the smash and grab of this expensive one... for insurance claim purposes.
