Why in the world do private citizens NEED high capacity magazines?

Supressive Fire. Anybody that has been in the military will know this. The majority of all ammo expended in battle is not one shot one kill but supressive fire.

The purpose of suppression is to stop or prevent the enemy from observing, shooting, moving or carrying out other military tasks that interfere (or could interfere) with the activities of friendly forces. An important feature of suppressive fire is that it is only effective while it lasts and that it has sufficient intensity.
The primary intended effect of suppressive fire is psychological. Rather than directly trying to kill enemy soldiers, it makes the enemy soldiers feel unable to safely perform any actions other than seeking cover. Colloquially, this goal is expressed as "it makes them keep their heads down" or "it keeps them pinned down". However, depending on factors including the type of ammunition and the target's protection, suppressive fire may cause casualties and/or damage to enemy equipment.
If you are trying to fight off a criminal in your house or property the last thing you want is a three round magazine as you are at you most vulnerable while reloading.
War; everything in the world wrong, evil and immoral combined into one and multiplied by millions.

Yup. That's why it's called a standard capacity magazine. That "high capacity" magazine is all bull$#@!.

This is a "high-capacity" magazine. (Which should of course also remain legal)

It's all about taking action and not being lazy. So you do the work, whether it's fitness or whatever. It's about getting up, motivating yourself and just doing it.

Answered your own question - that is a capability they do not want us to have.
Out of every one hundred men they send us, ten should not even be here. Eighty will do nothing but serve as targets for the enemy. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, upon them depends our success in battle. But one, ah the one, he is a real warrior, and he will bring the others back from battle alive.

To fend off looting gangs after 'the big one' earthquake in CA or Katrina. THEY have them, and there are a lot of them.

Government is of course the # one reason for my need of high capacity magazines, but as far as home protection we've just recently had a pack of six medium to large sized dogs running in our area (rural) and specifically through our property.

We own a couple of sheep that graze in our pasture to care for and less firepower isn't real ideal when you've got a pack of dogs and the first shot sends them running willy-nilly only to come back a few days later.

On our property, and with the "close" (close as in long-arms range) proximity of neighbors there are limited opportunities to take safe shots at stray dogs. When the shots are taken they have to be as effective as they can be (Hawaii cap is 10 round ) . I refuse to take un-safe shots.

Not us in the video but same problem:

The stray dog issue is pretty tough in our area because of all the 'pig dogs'. Hunters will go out with inadequately trained dogs, lose one of them on the hunt, and don't have the courtesy/reponsibility to search for it or bring it back. You end up with quite a few pig dogs mixed into these packs. Livestock doesn't stand a chance when a stray pig dog pack gets hungry.

So far the score is: bunkloco -0 feral dogs -0. I need all the modern fancy gadget help I can get. (I'm woefully under-gunned at the moment)

On the plus side, I haven't had to dispose of any dog bodies yet.
