Accidents happen all the time... remember this one, by a "professional" ?? Always makes me smile

It's all about taking action and not being lazy. So you do the work, whether it's fitness or whatever. It's about getting up, motivating yourself and just doing it.

This actually seems a tad serious. I have been interested in attending my first gun show but frankly now I kind of wonder WTF? I guess I have had an unrealistic stereotype that all gun enthusiasts are monumentally careful and responsible.

No there will always be idiots. That goes for any group of people. And the vast vast majority of gun shows will be accident-free.

How many people died in car wrecks yesterday? 4 people died in an avalanche yesterday too. Ban "assault" mountains.

Was it an assault avalanche? If not it doesn't make news

I am not advocating banning anything. I am simply adjusting to the reality that gun owners can be absolute idiots. I will take some solace in the reality that I am far more likely to die driving to and from the gun show, rather than by having a casing of bird shot emptied into my face while attending.

All the anti-gun legislation has the casuals coming out of the woodwork. No experience with firearms + gunshow = accident waiting to happen.

Also, hasn't the number of people attending Gun Shows in the last several weeks sky-rocketed? Gun shows across the country are reporting record attendance. With that type of spike, there is sure to be a significant influx of stupid and/or inexperience.

Wow. This is a great point. Hadn't thought of this. I wonder if the veteran gun owners at these events are encouraged by the newbies getting involved? Or, does it piss a substantial amount of them off? Kind of like people from California moving to red states?

Even 'professionals' can be complacent at times... it is these times that can get someone killed. ALWAYS use firearm safety! Never transport a loaded weapon unless it is for defensive use. Always observe safety rules when loading, unloading, inspecting....

People cut off fingers and hands from improperly handling power saws as well... safety is something that can never be disregarded—no matter what tool you are using.

    Stay safe!

RPF is monumentally slow right now for me. I have double posted by clicking reply too many times. I think I see evidence of this with others as well. Just reporting this for possible useful feedback.

Shouldn't we instead be spreading stories like this one:

HEY, IT'S JUST A 12 YEAR OLD GIRL AT HOME, HOW HARD COULD THIS BE? Home invader shot in chest with Mom's Glock: http://t.co/Vgqlwkc7

and yeah, it is double posting and such. Josh and the support team are working on it.

Absolutely. Fear always drives people to make irrational decisions. How many people who don't know how or are unable to responsibly own a firearm will now purchase one because they are afraid that Obama is going to guns away? It is like just after 9/11, when people quit flying because of fear, grounded airplanes, or intrusive security measures:

7 Bizarre Ways You Didn't Know 9/11 Changed the World

#6. Thousands of People Died ... in Car Accidents

As a result of the fear of air travel that arose post-9/11 (and of the fact that all planes were either heavily restricted or flat-out grounded for a week after the attacks), many people decided to just drive the trips they had planned on flying. After all, it seemed highly unlikely that al-Qaida would hijack anyone's Ford Festiva and try to crash it into Trump Tower (some confused valet would've probably run out and tried to park it). By that line of reasoning, what could be safer?

Flying, actually. As you may know, car accidents are staggeringly more common than plane crashes (terrorists notwithstanding) due to the fact that pretty much everyone drives. The average person spends about two hours every day behind the wheel of a car, and statistically speaking, you are much more likely to crash after an hour of driving than you are after an hour of flying. By responding in the reactionary knee-jerk way media-driven cultures generally do, Americans dramatically increased the number of fatal car accidents in the year following 9/11.

How much? How about an estimated 1,595 extra deaths, almost half the number of people who died in the 9/11 attacks themselves, due to all of the extra driving people did in a year when air travel dropped 20 percent. All because Americans thought that driving everywhere was the only way to avoid being killed in a blazing explosion. Note to Alanis Morissette: This is what irony actually is.

People forgetting basic gun safety measures like this would be indicative of newbies.

Perhaps gun safety should be a choice of school courses, like auto shop.

But if the feds make schools gun-free zones, what are you supposed to learn? How to conceal a water pistol without it dribbling in your shorts?

Would be another good argument to throw out the gun free zones...think positive, think positive, ...

    Some can.
A lot of idiots own and drive cars. And know absolutely nothing about them.

Several incidents simultaneously in places where safety is a high priority seems a bit suspicious.
Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.

Had a gun show less than 20 miles from my house this weekend.I knew it would be a madhouse,so I didn't go.I don't even like normal gun show crowd levels.
I imagine that lots of people less used to handling guns are going these days and this might cause problems.

Still bought me a new gun this weekend.

Surely, noone would go sobatoge a gun show, after all the blogging about how noone attacks at gunshows, surely.

I've been to a few and never heard of an accident.

The first one I attended the infringement on firearms owners was such that people were openly carrying weapons into the show. I don't think I saw that sort of freedom at the last ones I attended.

  31. #27
It's probably due to the vast number of first-timers, who are less likely on average to be careful and understand the rules of firearm safety than those with firearms experience.

That is true. There has to be a scientific term for the concept of greater the number, the greater the risks/chances.

I've already seen some lefties making comments.
Irresponsible people do not help any cause. Why was the shotgun loaded when it was stored and being transported? That just screams idiocy.

I noticed none of the incidents involved assault weapons.
Insanity should be defined as trusting the government to solve a problem they caused in the first place. Please do not go insane!

Remember anything can be considered an assault weapon, the socialists have used that word to publicize for a specific type of rifle. We are falling into their trap if we keep using their words.

I understood what you meant by assault weapons which means they are winning the war with words, we need to start calling them something else instead examples are riot defense gun, freedom long gun, home invasion protection tool, tyranny deterrent, burglar repellent, attack defense rifle, self preservation pistol, etc. We need to get creative on these socialists and beat them at their own game.
