Burlington, VT police looking for new gun range

Hopefully we'll see gun ranges all across the country do the same.

BURLINGTON, Vt. -A firing range has announced the Burlington Police Department is not welcome to train at its facilities any longer.

Last week the Burlington City Council voted to ban semi-automatic rifles and large capacity magazines in the city limits.

The chairman of the Lamoille Valley Fish and Game Club explained in a letter that it cannot support the city with such a prejudice against the club, and has voted to suspend the city's use of the range for law enforcement officers.

Burlington Police Chief Michael Schirling says it will affect how and when officers train with their firearms. The weapons ban still needs to go before lawmakers and voters.

RE: Response to the notice prohibiting use of the Lamoille Valley Fish and Game Club, Inc.:

It is unfortunate that this important and much needed community dialogue regarding gun control currently under way in the City of Burlington and across the Nation has resulted in this action.
It reads like a politician wrote it. "Dialogue." Please. Here's some dialogue: Molon labe.
Based on the idea of natural rights, government secures those rights to the individual by strictly negative intervention, making justice costless and easy of access; and beyond that it does not go. The State, on the other hand, both in its genesis and by its primary intention, is purely anti-social. It is not based on the idea of natural rights, but on the idea that the individual has no rights except those that the State may provisionally grant him. It has always made justice costly and difficult of access, and has invariably held itself above justice and common morality whenever it could advantage itself by so doing.

What do the police need with guns?

To shoot people for smoking a weed that makes them want to eat Pop Tarts, and to protect themselves from house pets inside their own homes, on their porches, or in their backyards, sometimes on leashes?

That's strong action considering the ban has to be approved 3 additional times (even by the people of the city and the state government) before it passes.

I don't mind. I think it's great. Even the whiff of this kind of ridiculous needs to be stamped out.

We have to punch back twice as hard.

Excellent. I hope all businesses start banning cops from their premises. It will make it much more difficult to be a part of that criminal gang when you cannot go to most restaurants and other places of business.

This. (Reminds me of that story about the coffee place that won't serve the blue-gloved TSA goons.) Some might say, "What will happen when we need the police?" But like DiLorenzo said, they hardly ever prevent crime. They're crime historians and stick-up men.

(In case anyone has a few minutes, the progs are flooding that article, down-voting free men who would rather not be disarmed subjects.)
