Thread: List of Sheriffs Standing Up Against Obama's Gun Control

  1. #1

Default List of Sheriffs Standing Up Against Obama's Gun Control

    So far I have seen:

    1. Jackson County Kentucky Sheriff Denny Peyman
    2. Linn County Oregon Sheriff Tim Mueller
    3. Madison County Idaho Sheriff Roy Klingler
    4. Crook County Oregon Sheriff Jim Hensley

All standing up against Obama and the anti-2nd amendment tirade currently taking place. Are there any other sheriffs to be added to the list? Can we post names, mailing addresses, and numbers of all of the sheriffs in America so we contact them and urge them to join their counterparts in the effort to publicly resist gun control?

Charleston County, South Carolina: Sheriff Cannon:

Sheriff Cannon: I would be violating the law if I enforced unconstitutional law

    Staff report
    Posted: Thursday, January 17, 2013 11:35 a.m.
    UPDATED: Thursday, January 17, 2013 12:21 p.m.

Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon said Thursday he was opposed to President Barrack Obama's proposed gun legislation. Christina Elmore/StaffCharleston County Sheriff Al Cannon said Thursday he was opposed to President Barrack Obama's proposed gun legislation.

Charleston County’s Sheriff Al Cannon voiced his opposition to proposed national gun restrictions in the wake of the Newtown, Conn. shooting.

During a press conference this morning, Cannon said people are “taking advantage of broken hearts” to push the gun agenda.

He also told reporters he would be violating the law if he enforced a law that was unconstutional. “An officer is obligated not to follow any unlawful order,” Cannon said.

During the press conference, Cannon dumped bullets out of a revolver and said: “The only way I can hurt you with this is if I hit you with it.”

Cannon also said banning assault weapons won’t guarantee the safety of students and blamed the “general erosion of morals and ethics in society” as the contributing factor to gun violence.

“Criminals don’t obey laws. They’re not going to turn in their 30-round magazines,” Cannon said.

Can everyone include links to back up the claim about a particular Sheriff's position?

BTW, I looked up how many counties there are in the US, and it is over 3,000. We have a ways to go.

I asked my Sheriff where he stands on this issue via Facebook, but have had no reply. Will stop in at the County Jail tomorrow to see if I can get some answers.

My Sheriff was recently elected president of the Buckeye State Sheriff's Association. The county is pretty rural and very Republican.

Can the OP be updated with the new entries? Thanks, and +rep for a great thread.

"Sorry, guys, the rebellion is off. We couldn't get a rebellion permit."
"What is this, a home owner's association? Why the need to try and control other people's behavior?"

Thanks! I have updated the OP with the new count. 12 down, over 3,000 to go! I agree, anyone who has new information please provide a link or source for the OP because at the rate they're coming in, I might not have time to research and vet them all.

“The federal authorities can try to enforce it,” said Dorning. “I’m the Sheriff of Madison County. I took a constitutional oath to defend the Constitution of the United States of America, to defend the Constitution of the State of Alabama, even if it takes my life. That is my position.”

    Morgan County Alabama.

From Sheriff Ana Franklin's FaceBook page:

I believe that every law abiding citizen has the right to own and carry a gun if they wish to do so. This right shall not be denied or infringed upon according to the constitution. I, nor any of my deputies, will be seizing guns from law abiding citizens nor will we stand for any federal agent to violate our citizens' constitutional rights.

Maybe a list ought to be made that lists sheriffs who won't stand up for our constitutional rights. Better yet, maybe a "does your sheriff believe in protecting your constitutional rights?" campaign ought to be started.

Yeah I agree. That's why I was asking in the OP if someone could put together all of the mailing addresses info for every Sheriff. Then we could orchestrate a campaign to call them all and find out if they're going to follow their sworn oath or not.

Colorado, El Paso County, Sheriff Terry Maketa
First and foremost, I absolutely believe in and stand firmly against, any effort that infringes on the rights of law abiding citizens to own and posses firearms of their choice. Furthermore, I will actively oppose any effort that infringes upon your second amendment rights.
Colorado, Weld County, Sheriff John Cooke
Cooke said he disagrees with the president on every aspect of the proposal, aside from parts aimed at addressing mental- health issues. Cooke said the measures blatantly violate the Second Amendment.

"I'm not going to help him in any way," Cooke said. "I'm not going to enforce it because it's unenforceable and because I don't have the resources. The federal government doesn't have the resources."

Harris-Perry: Gun control may be ‘swifter and more effective’ at local level

    By Samantha Kimmey
    Saturday, January 19, 2013

On her Saturday show, Melissa Harris-Perry discussed the possibility that gun control advocates may want to focus on passing legislation at the local level.

“While many are looking to the White House and Capitol Hill to make sweeping gun reform legislation, perhaps swifter and more effective action is likelier to come at the local level,” she said...

...Harris-Perry said she felt that certain kinds of bans can backfire on gun control advocates and that it can bring up a “18th amendment sort of prohibition problem.”

She wondered if cigarette regulation — which created a “culture change” by making it more difficult to smoke publicly and forcing cigarette companies to educate people on the dangers of tobacco — might be a better model for those who support stronger gun control...
Melissa Harris-Perry was one of the kicker-offers of the Trayvon Martin selective grief jag.

That's nice and all. Why don't most of those sheriffs, particularly California, stand up against their state's illegal unconstitutional gun laws?

Thanks. I fixed it. That's how it was showing on the site I linked to, but they have since fixed it as well.

That is a good question. There are already unconstitutional infringements galore. It is nice that they are taking a stand, but if they are taking a stand on the second amendment, the line should be further forward. They could start by protecting permit-free, tax free concealed carry, suppressors, full auto, unrestricted barrel length, etc. Kinda makes me suspicious that they chose a line in the sand that the feds wouldn't be crossing en masse anyway.

It will be VERY interesting to see how NY plays out in the coming year or two.

Were any of these Sheriffs allowed at the Obama meeting today?
