I have been wondering since early this year while watching the events unfold in the middle east, why Al Jazeera was painting such a staunchly pro NATO picture of the events in Libya and why there were so many discrepencies between their reports and what we were seeing in the media here in Asia.
It was disturbing, knowing that so many " liberals " and " progressives " ( especially since 2001 ) depend on Al Jazeera for their view of what is happening in the region and the world.
Not knowing at the time, that Al Jazeera is the state owned media outlet of the nation of Qatar, and also not knowing of the history between Israel and Qatar.

Recognition by Secretary Clinton
On 4 March 2011, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that Al Jazeera provided more informative news coverage than the opinion-driven coverage of American mass media.[88] Most American media outlets declined comment. Michael Clemente of Fox News called the comments "curious," while not directly refuting them.
Al Jazeera (Arabic: الجزيرة al-ǧazīrah IPA: [æl dʒæˈziːrɐ], literally, "The Island," abbreviating "The [Arabian] Peninsula")[note] (also Aljazeera or JSC [Jazeera Satellite Channel]) is an independent broadcaster owned by the state of Qatar through the Qatar Media Corporation and headquartered in Doha, Qatar. Initially launched as an Arabic news and current affairs satellite TV channel, Al Jazeera has since expanded into a network with several outlets, including the Internet and specialty TV channels in multiple languages. Al Jazeera is accessible in several world regions.

Qatar Joins Efforts Against Libya
Qatar said Sunday that it would joint the international allied effort against Muammar Qaddafi. Speaking to Al-Jazeera, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim al-Thani said that "Qatar will participate in military action because we believe there must be Arab states undertaking this action, because the situation there is intolerable.
"The cause of killing is not a protest ... it has become an open war involving mercenaries. I think that this is an issue that must stop very quickly," the prime minister said. "We do not accept any harm coming to the Libyan people. We are not targeting the Libyan people, or targeting even Qadaffi or his sons, quite the opposite. How can we stop the bloodshed, this is our intention," he added.
