    Doomsday Preppers are “Socially Selfish”

Last week on the website Emergency Management, there appeared a blog post written by an emergency manager named Valerie Lucus-McEwen in which she made a grave error in judgment. She called doomsday preppers “socially selfish.”

She based this startling conclusion on the National Geographic’s “The Doomsday Prepper” series and concluded that because the people featured in this show were spending their OWN time and their OWN money to stockpile their OWN resources in order to prepare their OWN families for whatever disastrous scenario they foresaw, they are selfish. Specifically, as another emergency manager phrased it, this is “a level of indulgence that is selfish and counter-productive to providing for the common good.”
“You might wonder,” wrote Ms. Lucus-McEwen, “why someone like me, who has been in the business of encouraging disaster preparedness for a very long time, is so critical of people who are doing just that. It’s because they are being socially selfish – preparing themselves and the hell with everyone else.

'We endorse the idea of voluntarism; self-responsibility: Family, friends, and churches to solve problems, rather than saying that some monolithic government is going to make you take care of yourself and be a better person. It's a preposterous notion: It never worked, it never will. The government can't make you a better person; it can't make you follow good habits.' - Ron Paul 1988

Well, it's pretty damned expensive to prepare for everyone else too. Maybe the rest should take responsibility and do some of it too so they won't appear to be socially selfish.

When I think of "socially selfish" I think of people voting debt on their children and grandchildren.

Socially selfish = rugged individual and self reliant. I am guilty as charged.
“The spirits of darkness are now among us. We have to be on guard so that we may realize what is happening when we encounter them and gain a real idea of where they are to be found. The most dangerous thing you can do in the immediate future will be to give yourself up unconsciously to the influences which are definitely present.” ~ Rudolf Steiner

You do not understand Mundane, your job, your social duty, is to die, quietly and without a fuss, in order to decrease the surplus population.

Can't have 7 billion worthless eaters demanding the life extension technologies we have, can we now?

Now she's trying to safe face and wrote another blog "clarifying" that she doesn't think disaster preppers are selfish, only doomsday preppers.

Haha "The common good." Don't you love their self-righteousness?

If enough people are "doomsday preppers," that does help the "common good" in many ways. What an idiot. I'd love to have a neighbor who was in that category--we could talk and discuss trade of products/services/security, should there be a disaster. For instance, my neighbor has laying chickens, so I could possibly get meat chickens or some animal to milk. Her husband's an avid hunter--we have parallel plots of farmland. The possibilities are good.

Well by golly let's get "Our-Government" involved......Just think of all the new jobs.......Free guns-n-food for the masses, especially those who live in cities.......Just think how well it would work crates of AR's and ammo, semi-trucks of dry-goods all distributed by good ol' Uncle-Sam a venerable free for all at the local section 8 housing complex..

Insanity should be defined as trusting the government to solve a problem they caused in the first place. Please do not go insane!

If you want to make friends with the hunter, tell him he can hunt on your land. Or at least pursue a wounded deer onto it.

Chances are good he'll throw some venison your way.
