“The Liberty Movement in Maine: Past, Present and Future”
    December 15, 2012
    Bangor, Maine

Mission Statement: The goal of the Maine Liberty Summit is to form a broad coalition based on shared principles of individual liberty and non-aggression.

We will develop action steps that reject the omnipotence of the state over the individual and promote government that respects the sovereignty of the people. We will insist that the state and federal governments remain constrained to their enumerated, delegated powers, and promote tools such as state, local, and individual nullification to serve as a check on governmental authority at every level.

Guided by these principles and through these actions, we can lead Maine to become a free state that respects life, liberty, and property.

Here is the only Maine Liberty Summit video I know of. If you know of others, please post them.

This is an excellent video pimping of the Free State Project (http://freestateproject.org/ ), Sex Lies & Anarchy (http://sexliesanarchy.com/ ) and the Defense of Liberty PAC (http://defenseoflibertypac.com/ ). The sound is slightly off when the 2nd speaker, Antigone, speaks (maybe because of the church) so I recommend headphones. The producer is JJ. He is best known as a blogger on Free Keene (http://freekeene.com/ ) and as the producer of various videos including the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire (http://lpnh.org/ ) zombie videos (http://youtu.be/NgnyZdClTpM ) during the 2012 campaign season.

I really liked the end part of the video when the ME dude was talking about NH folk helping them win their primaries in June and the reciprocity for NH in September.

Yeah, that sounds cools. It sounds like they are just trying to continue what we did for the Ron Paul campaign. It sounds like it might be better organized this time. Maybe they will even have places for us to stay in ME. This year, the ME primaries for ME House and ME Senate weren't very competitive. Maybe if help from NH folks, the ME primaries will get more competitive. Though, David is overlooking another fundamental problem in ME, most of the seats in ME will go Democratic. Hopefully they look into the most competitive and likely Republican seats and run challenges in those seats.

This past Saturday, December 15th, people from across the state of Maine gathered in Bangor, ME for the first ever "Maine Liberty Summit." The event highlighted the past, present, and future of the liberty movement in Maine, and was an open forum for all lovers of liberty to express issues they would like to see the movement push for in 2013 and beyond.

The all-day event had speakers from: Campaign for Liberty, Defense of Liberty PAC, the Tenth Amendment Center, Maine Taxpayers United, The Canary Party, the John Birch Society, Young Americans for Liberty, Medical Marijuana Caregivers of Maine, Maine Tea Party Patriots, and The Free State Project.

At the event, as a sponsoring organization, the University of Maine's chapter of YAL was given a speaking slot where chapter president Cody Morgan reinforced the chapters goals and aspirations in the coming months, a game-plan which included: bringing guest speakers to campus, educating the school population on the ideas of liberty and pushing for a change in university policy concerning concealed carry on campus.

Also at the Summit, YAL hosted our own "Choose Charity" event, collecting non-perishable food items from all attendees. The University of Maine chapter of YAL had a table with both information and a collection area with several boxes to collect food. In total, we collected four large boxes filled to the brim with food and $84 in donations, all to be donated to Manna Ministries in downtown Bangor.
