    (CNSNews.com) - House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said on Friday that Congress should hand over to President Barack Obama the power to unilateral increase the limit on the U.S. government's debt.

    In effect, under the plan Pelosi is endorsing, the only limit on the national debt would be President Obama's willingness to borrow money in the name of American taxpayers.

    At a Friday press conference, a reporter asked Pelosi if she agreed with a proposal made by Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner that Congress give Obama the power to unilaterally increase the debt limit.


    "Yes," she said.
    Article 1, Section 8, Clause 2 says:
    "Congress shall have power []To borrow money on the credit of the United States."

    I was just looking at a video of this. It is no surprise, they don't try to hide who they are anymore. Why should they?

    The GOP did this with Bush and war powers years ago and then they turn around and state that Obama is a tyrant. Your guy will not be in the White House forever and when a Republican President is elected, he will have the power to borrow infinitely. Then the complaints will start.

    This is not just a Pelosi/Democrat thing. Congress has been falling-down eager to divest itself of its most important & serious responsibilities ever since the War Powers Act (at least).

    They'd really rather not have to put up with such pesky inconveniences as actually having to take a stand and voting on things.

    That sort of thing seriously detracts from the whole back-slappin' good ol' boy Country Club atmosphere.

    Right, it's a very, very short-term "let's give our guy all of this power" thing and then they turn around and believe the other side will never take power again.
