Syria shuts off internet access across the country

Syria shuts off internet access across the country

Syrian officials shut down nationwide internet access on Thursday and closed Damascus airport as rebels mounted offensives nearby and tried to advance on the capital from four directions. Phone networks were also crippled in much of the country, causing fear and confusion on both sides and fuelling claims that a new rebel push was gaining momentum.

Syria's information minister blamed "terrorists" for the outage, but the communications shutdown was seen as an attempt to stymie rebel moves as militias try to co-ordinate an assault on Damascus. It was also thought to be aimed at thwarting any plans for advances in other towns and cities.

'We endorse the idea of voluntarism; self-responsibility: Family, friends, and churches to solve problems, rather than saying that some monolithic government is going to make you take care of yourself and be a better person. It's a preposterous notion: It never worked, it never will. The government can't make you a better person; it can't make you follow good habits.' - Ron Paul 1988

Anonymous have said they will shut down the Syrian governments websites around the world in response to Syria’s internet blackout. For the second day all internet services, mobile phones and many fixed line phones are out of action.

*A tweet on Friday from the group read, “Government of Syria cuts country’s internet access – anonymous goes on warpath.”
Anonymous quickly called their campaign Opsyria. At 02:00 am GMT on Friday they started removing all the Syrian government’s internet properties that remained online, after the country’s Web access was severed, they also targeted domains ran by pro-government sympathizers.
Some of the Syrian organizations and companies that have been hacked by Anonymous include Syrian Railways, the Syrian parliament, Syrian TV and the Syrian Embassy in China.
The hackers also managed to download 1GB of confidential memos and emails from the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs including details about plane loads of cash from Russia and arms from Ukraine, which they have uploaded for public viewing.

I wouldn't be surprised if the west and their murderous hordes are actually the ones tampering with Syria internet service. Cos with the loads of rebel atrocities coming on the internet, I would want to silence all that myself. Now combine it with anonymous shutting off all Syria govt websites around the world, this could be an attempt to silence then while the knife is being twisted.

Its OK to hate the Syrian regime or the majority of the Syrian people who still support Assad but please know that these rebels will surely exterminate the Alawites if given a chance just like they did to the Libya blacks. I just pray that the Syria people would be able to repel this foreign invasion from the arab states and anonymous and just deal with their problems by themselves.

Also if you want to keep up with the many many atrocities the rebels were foolish enough to put on tape, please check out syriangirlpartisan on youtube.

I highly doubt. Unless Russia or China checks the west military interventions will topple 3rd world countries. Right now Syria is holding on due to the fact that we haven't bombed the $#@! out of their government yet.
