In July 1959, Herbert Matthews denied that Fidel Castro was communist, saying: "This is not a Communist Revolution in any sense of the term. Fidel Castro is not only not a Communist, he is decidedly anti-Communist."

    Wikipedia: Fidel Castro

Fidel Castro is a Cuban communist revolutionary and politician, having held the position of Prime Minister of Cuba from 1959 to 1976, and then President from 1976 to 2008. He also served as the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba from the party's foundation in 1961 until 2011. Politically a Marxist-Leninist, under his administration the Republic of Cuba was converted into a one-party socialist state, with industry and business being nationalized under state ownership and socialist reforms implemented in all areas of society. On the international stage, he also served as the Secretary-General of the Non-Aligned Movement from 1979 to 1983 and 2006 to 2008.

No communist nation has ever been communist. Aspects of it are nice in theory. But it is just that.

Please read actually read the The Communist Manifesto before making silly comments. The Communist Manifesto clearly states that the state much control all the wealth and land first before it "gives it back to the people." In reality, the wealth is never given back. It's the Communist lie.

Yes, please read The Communist Manifesto.

And where have I made a silly comment? I said only in theory communism works, the right of the workers, a no god or religion society in theory makes sense.

Communism in my view is as unrealistic as full blown Libertarianism.

Socialism provides for the common good, despite it's imperfections. Sooner or later, none of these political beliefs will mean anything in a world of finite resources, and over population.

The whole "communism works on paper" idea is nonsense to anyone who has actually read The Communist Manifesto. The state must take control of all the wealth and land first before any type of Utopia can be implemented. That idea doesn't even work in theory/paper and I've heard my Socialist College professors repeat that stupid line over and over.

What about Libertarianism, is that not unrealistic along with Communism?

They are both extreme, and not fully implemented anywhere.

Castro didn't declare himself a Marxist until long after he had control of Cuba, the US government refused to buy his sugar, and he needed another buyer (the USSR). Only when he was about to do business with the Soviets did he decide himself to be a Marxist heh

John Birch Society's Robert Welch Was Correct on Castro

    The New American
    31 December 2008

Both before and after Fidel Castro came to power in Cuba on January 1, 1959, the major media in America portrayed him as a champion of the Cuban people and a freedom fighter who was not a communist. It was not until December 1961, when Castro himself said he was a communist, that the media acknowledged this truth. Later, in an April 26, 1963 press conference, Dwight Eisenhower, who was president when Castro came to power, opined: "It would have taken a genius of prophecy to know that Castro was a Communist when he took control of Cuba." But Eisenhower did not say that Robert Welch, who founded the John Birch Society the month before Castro came to power, was warning at the time that Castro was a communist.

On December 8, 1958, at the founding meeting of the John Birch Society, Robert Welch warned: "If you have any slightest doubt that Castro is a Communist, don't. If he is successful, time will clearly reveal that he is an agent of the Kremlin." That warning was issued almost a month before Castro came to power.

Well it wasn't hard to see that if he couldn't do business with one of the 2 only players in the market, he would have to go to our competitor. He was a revolutionary who turned Marxist in order to do business with the other side.

    Fidel Castro disagrees with you.
