Thread: Why does the US love Israel?

Default Why does the US love Israel?

I'm serious now. Like many of you, I'm pretty well-informed on major political issues, but I have never understood this one. Why do the 2 parties compete for who loves Israel more? Why is that country chosen as our ally by politicians and why does much of our middle-east foreign policy focus around protecting them? (The most obvious example being "we can't let Iran research nuclear technology or else they might threaten poor Israel, who by the way already has nukes")

Of course, politicians are spineless and, while I don't know their exact reasoning, it is probably easy to find. The more important question to be is: why do so many Americans buy this? What do THEY have invested into an arbitrary middle-eastern country?

I don't really understand it myself.... But I think the public thinks its what God would want us to do. and washington I believe has a lot of money coming in to it from Israel. And the military likes it for strategic positioning.

But ya... The public thinks something like this. 'Jesus was a Jew, and Jews are from Israel. therefor part of loving Jesus is protecting Israel.' I honestly think that is the reasoning behind it all.

If you love Jesus then you must love Israel and if you don't love Israel unconditionaly then you must hate Jesus.

In my experience- 1) It's a client State 2) widespread belief that teh Jooz are "God's Chosen People", especially among Protestants 3) gross misunderstanding of Mideastern history, thought, and religion

Isn't it amazing how many ignorant talking heads out there act as if they know what's best for that region even though they demonstrate no understanding of it whatsoever?

Thats what I'm talking about... I don't have the slightest clue myself about that place and I bet you don't either. But whats different is we are not suggesting anything for the place. Its like how I have know Idea on how to make a TV, So why in Gods name would I ever vote for someone wanting to regulate the industry.

Voting for politicians to do something in the middle east is like making a non English speaking Mexican an English teacher.

Because I have no clue about the middle east I cant possibly vote to take action in any way there. And even issues I do know about like paint the best action is still to take no action.

What the hell am I talking about?

Maybe sometimes but just because you are a Jew in hollywood or banking does not mean you must be part of some conspiracy. I know me some cool Jews and they have nothing to do with Israel. They just don't eat pig is all.

AIPAC is a very powerful lobby. And the State of Israel has a very good PR department.

That's the most important thing. The vast majority of American corporate media is part of that very PR department.

I think it mostly has to do with with the strange symbiotic relationship people think we have with the Jewish religion. But Judaism and Israel are pretty far apart these days.
Just like Christianity and the Federal government are not the same, yet some falsely believe they are.

AIPAC is probably the most powerful and well-funded PAC in the country. That directly effects politicians, campaigns and votes.
