Note the quote in green in comparison to the translated quote in the tinfoil buzz earlier:

    Original OP:

This is breaking "alternative news" at the moment. I don't see anything about it in western media. All the tinfoil sites have been chattering about it since around noon eastern today. Background is there has been some fighting on the Syrian side of the Turkish border. It has spilled over a few times. Reuters recently reported there was a Syrian shell that killed several people in Turkey. Pictures are from the turkish news site.

My sketchy tinfoil meter is twitching... I'll get back to you with details as they arise. The story broke in "English" on "godlikeproductions.com around 1 PM EST. Zaman seems genuine enough, but the story seems placed and the imagery stock.

This story broke on Zaman, a turkish news site, google translated link follows:

Wow... this bit of international news developed from the underground to the MSM while I was writing the OP. It stood the hairs up on the back of my hands as I was typing the update.

BBC is now carrying the story:

News: Turkey hits targets inside Syria after border deaths

    BBC News‎ - 23 minutes ago
Turkey targets positions inside Syria in response to the deaths of five people killed by Syrian shells in a Turkish border town.
This is a potential WWIII catalyzing event. Really bad mojo. Turkey is a NATO nation and there is a mutual defense clause amongst members, which include the US. Syria downed a Turkish jet last month. Iran has recently sworn to back Syria against outside agression. Iran - Russia relations. Iran - China relations. HOT MESS.

    http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-202_162-...targets-syria/

"It's a very, very dangerous situation," Clinton said. "And all responsible nations need to band together to persuade the Assad regime to have a cease-fire, quit assaulting their own people and begin the process of a political transition."

"This is yet another example of the depraved behavior of the Syrian regime, and why it must go," said Pentagon press secretary George Little. "We regret the loss of life in Turkey, a strong ally, and continue to monitor the situation closely."

Something else of note that came of this attack. Note that we picked up the news through a translation of a local turkish website via a member of a conspiracty theorist site: godlikeproductions.com who ten pages into his own thread was still half sold himself as to whether it was real news or not:

Turkey has been involved from the beginning.
They had been harboring the FSA,, and got a plane shot down in Syrian airspace. (Where it did not belong)
Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.

How come NATO didn't take out Turkey? They're one the most horrific abusers of human rights, censorship, propaganda. Oh I forgot, they're in NATO.

Just a little refresher, even if you're a journalist: Turkey No Model of Freedom of Press

    http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/T...om-2371031.php
...you'll find a cesspool, a government showing utter contempt for its own people by jailing scores of reporters, blocking thousands of websites, severely punishing anyone who dares utter a word of criticism.

Guess which nation has jailed more reporters than any other. China? Iran? No, it's Turkey. The Turkish media say 68 are in prison right now - double the number last reported in either China or Iran. And some are jailed for more than just a few days or weeks.

The International Press Institute noted that two newspaper reporters were recently sentenced to 138 and 166 years each. Another is battling 150 separate court cases. Two others, on trial now, face up to 3,000 years in prison. A common charge is "insulting the president of the republic." If that were a legal charge in any actual democracy, the nation's entire press corps would be in jail.

In the spirit of indivisibility of security and solidarity deriving from the Washington Treaty, the Alliance continues to stand by Turkey and demands the immediate cessation of such aggressive acts against an Ally, and urges the Syrian regime to put an end to flagrant violations of international law.

I will assume that we (America or an agent of) shot a mortar into Turkey to stir the shit pot. Assad would not do this as he would have absolutely nothing to gain, nothing at all

An external aggressor could unite the country. Hell of a gamble.
