From the Facebook page of the Kennebec County, Maine Sheriff’s Office.

Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office and the Augusta Police Department have been working collaboratively by combining resources such as our Special Response Team. This pic was taken recently by staff at the Kennebec Journal as the two teams trained together for tactical approaches and tactical entries. Lookin’ sharp, guys!

Interesting how they wear all that armor, but leave their heads open for double-ought.

So does this mean everybody should be dressed like them so they won't know who to shoot at?

I know I wouldn't want to be dressed like that, it would make me a target.

Friendly fire is always a possible problem.

I won't pretend to have combat experience, but with what training I do have, holy christ I would've walked off the training site. Jeez louise they're gonna be in for a rude awakening one day.

It's a wonder they didn't tell them to bunch up a little closer.

They look ridiculous. Who the hell is training them?

There was an incident in Greenland NH a few months back, where the "Combined Tactical Forces" stormed a man's home for a steroid bust.

Well, that man decided he just wasn't going to be arrested that day and took down one of the raiders, who happened to be the chief of police.

Two other cops were shot, but the system was keeping real mum on what happened to them, other than the wounds were not fatal.

I'm convinced they were shot by their own guys, huddled up in a circular firing squad circle jerk.

Precisely what I was getting at.

Maybe they made them to fit in the frame of the photo? I doubt it. I see cops all the time making stupid ass mistakes like these, so color me unsurprised.

Their #1 cause of fatality on the job is gonna change from car accidents, to friendly fire, and just generally being picked off in a reverse-firing line kind of way.

Good thing the county they're in never has anything really bad happening, they'll all live a lot longer.

    That's probably what happened.

Anyone know whatever happened with that vet that took out like 6 of them here recently when he saw them raiding another house? If they all train like this, I see why he got 6(it may have been more or less, I can't remember).

They are practicing the same class of failed tactics they use on protesters. Shield walls have been militarily nonviable for what, 2300 years? And the police still use them.

    http://www.shsu.edu/~his_ncp/Polyb2.html

What therefore is the cause that gives the victory to the Romans, and defeats those, who make use of the Phalanx? It is this: military operations are uncertain both in time and place; whereas the Phalanx has but one time, one place, and one disposition, in which it can perform the service that is expected from it. If therefore there was a necessity for the enemy to engage the Phalanx at its own time, and place, in every decisive action, it is reasonable to conclude from what has been said, that the latter would always prove victorious. But, if this is possible, and easy to be avoided, why should that disposition be, any longer, looked upon as formidable? And, indeed, it is allowed that the Phalanx stands in need of an even and open ground, where there is no lmpediment, such as ditches, chasms, valleys, eminences, and rivers. All these are capable of confounding, and breaking its ranks.
That's from a 1909 translation of an ancient world criticism.

So why practice tactics that have been proven failures for millennia?
Obviously the tactical advantage is not the point.

They do it to strike fear in the heart of their enemies.

They're projecting. They're obviously chickenshits, given the fact that they have to shoot teenage girls and drunk people multiple times out of fear for their safety.
And they therefore think we're all chickenshits.

There are no crimes against people.
There are only crimes against the state.
And the state will never, ever choose to hold accountable its agents, because a thing can not commit a crime against itself.

Not sure, but I do know it wouldn't stop a .30"06 round...or even a pellet rifle. A Daisy BB gun might bounce off, maybe they're going to fight kids?

For those who've never had one on-you can't see for $#@! with those masks on, especially if you start sweating.

That's why I was asking. I've never seen CS masked configured like that. Was thinking maybe air-soft protection? Regardless, they look like a TIE fighter/storm trooper mask.

I hate that they are training like that. But they look badass, and it would be cool if the police dressed like that for that reason alone :P

Make sure you are wearing the exact same mask, since that's how they identify non-cops these days.

They shoot like storm troopers, too--everywhere and everyone but the target.

That's a consideration. One or two of the decision makers might even be able to read.

"Not long ago it was easy to tell who the bad guys were. They carried Kalashnikovs. Now it is much more complicated, but one thing is sure - any man who covers his face and packs a gun is a legitimate target for any decent citizen." -Col. Jeff Cooper 1993
Out of every one hundred men they send us, ten should not even be here. Eighty will do nothing but serve as targets for the enemy. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, upon them depends our success in battle. But one, ah the one, he is a real warrior, and he will bring the others back from battle alive.

Duty is the most sublime word in the English language. Do your duty in all things. You can not do more than your duty. You should never wish to do less than your duty.

A mask and a black hat does kind of carry some connotations...

There were 102 comments on their FB page about the photo, but only 4 positive comments remain. Why?

    From the Captain:

To all... We work very hard to provide an outstanding level of service to the citizens of Kennebec County. Our Facebook page is here for our "friends" to promote the agency as well as share tips or ask questions about the law enforcement services we provide. What will not be done on this page is scrutiny of the approved budget, negative comments about personnel or the agency,
or opportunities for people to post statements relating to their personal agendas. That is what YOUR page is for.

I am sure this question was asked before but:
Camouflage uniforms? They are for jungle/Forrest environment. They are useless in urban environment. Why would police need them? I am not going into legality of turning police into military and whole police state argument (which is wrong...ok I went there too but....) I am just looking at this from common sense point of view.
Today I decided to get banned and spam activism on this forum...
