    Sen. Paul Filibuster Succeeds
Senate agrees to debate, vote to cut aid to Pakistan, Egypt and Libya

    Rand Paul
    Sept. 21, 2012

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, after months of championing the issue of cutting aid to Pakistan and other actions against the interests of the United States, Sen. Rand Paul succeeded in his filibuster mission to bring his legislation to a vote.

Sen. Paul's bill, S. 3576, calls for a prohibition of U.S. aid funds to the governments of Egypt, Libya and Pakistan contingent upon the release to U.S. authorities the aggressors who attacked our embassy and consulate in Egypt and Libya, respectively, and the release of Dr. Shakil Afridi, currently held by the Pakistani government.

"In no way should the United States government be sending money to governments who are not our ally, who blatantly do not respect our country, and who work to compromise the safety of our allies and citizens abroad. I am pleased that the Senate leadership has listened to my pleas for an end to this and have agreed to debate and vote on this pressing issue," Sen. Paul said.

In a series of Dear Colleague letters and direct correspondence to Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) over the past few weeks, Sen. Paul has indicated his intention to hold up all pending legislation before the Senate in a filibuster until his legislation was brought before the Senate to deliberate and vote.

    So it is a bribe.

Why not just cut all funds, FLAT? Period.
Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.

    Its always been a bribe.

And you have to start somewhere. Its easiest to start where your opponents will generally agree with you.

perhaps you should watch his speech. he makes an hour long case to end ALL foreign aid. he is making this compromise bill to mock the other senators as radicals who wont even consider cutting aid for ANy reason whatsoever.

Here's Rand's hour long speech. It happened earlier in the day.

He tried that, Pete. It was rejected. So, now he is showing them to be the hypocritical asses that they are, and they are getting more pressure from more places.

Listen to the speech. I think you will like it.

I really like that he repeatedly brings up Hillary Clinton's ridiculous actions. Her incompetence isn't discussed enough.
Also when he says they'll be able to go home and explain to their constituents why they voted to support more financial aid to these people.

I listened, and I liked it very much.

I think the simple answer to Pete's question (as much as I would prefer that we DID cut all funds)...if we cannot cut all funds, isn't it about time we get something in return for the money we give them? Must we send millions of dollars to these countries only to have them kick us in the teeth, figuratively and sometimes literally?

When the vote tally is done tonight, let's see who really stands for our country and our best interests.
I do not put Israel first, running around trying to make war everywhere. I am not a Republican.

Bentonism is the playing down of Ron Paul’s most popular and important ideas, the impatience with and purging of people who champion those ideas, and an obsessive eye to GOP respectability. Is that what the “liberty movement” is? Then count me out. ~ Tom Woods
