Whitewood addresses Agenda 21
Black Hills Pioneer
August 25, 2012
Whitewood City Council members may soon act on a resolution to reject policies and money relative to Agenda 21.
The resolution council members received Monday described Agenda 21 as “a comprehensive plan of extreme environmentalism, social engineering, and global political control.”
This resolution says the “sustainable development” plan views the American way of life including private property ownership, single-family homes, private car ownership, individual travel choices, and privately owned farms as environmentally destructive.
Bill Nachatello addressed the council on behalf of the conservative Northern Hills Patriots group. “This happens to be a high priority for our group because of how we feel about the impact on local government,” Nachatello said of Agenda 21.
The overall effects of Agenda 21 include eliminating private ownership, restricting civil liberties, restricting volume of water usage, and restricting the amount of trash and waste, Nachatello said. He said Agenda 21 uses names like “sustainable development,” “land use,” “open spaces,” and “comprehensive planning.”
Resolution language says the International Council of Local Environmental Initiatives is pushing Agenda 21 into local communities. Policies include names like Smart Growth, Wildlands Project, Resilient Cities, Regional Visioning Projects, and other Green or Alternative projects.

City Councilman Lewis Gellett said it's confusing for him to take sides at this time. “As a city, we're scrambling to get as much money as we can,” he said.
