    I think that just happened, right? Just goes to show that the leadership doesn't necessarily represent the base.

    Yes, just happened. Quite amazing he was able to win over the voters in Paris, he did had to overcome the initial fears, that he was a rich doctor trying to buy the town, he was gonna build a mosque, ban Christianity, is a terrorist, etc.
