ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — The New York Police Department will soon launch an all-seeing "Domain Awareness System" that combines several streams of information to track both criminals and potential terrorists.
New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly says the city developed the software with Microsoft.
Kelly says the program combines city-wide video surveillance with law enforcement databases.
He says it will be officially unveiled by New York's mayor as soon as next week.
Here's a PDF that describes the system in more detail:

Note that the above document appears to be dated 2009, so I'm not sure why the system is only being unveiled now, as if it were new. It seems to be primarily a network of CCTV cameras and license plate readers. The above document claims that face recognition tech is not incorporated into the system. Who knows if that's true (though face recognition tech is still not very reliable under real-world conditions).
This system will do fuck-all to prevent suicide attacks, but it will certainly deal a major blow to the privacy of ordinary citizens.
