'We endorse the idea of voluntarism; self-responsibility: Family, friends, and churches to solve problems, rather than saying that some monolithic government is going to make you take care of yourself and be a better person. It's a preposterous notion: It never worked, it never will. The government can't make you a better person; it can't make you follow good habits.' - Ron Paul 1988

Yeah, yeah. First time I saw a headline like that, it was coffee. Some businesses are smart enough to know a break increases a person's efficiency the rest of the time. Some managers aren't smart enough to know if people have enough work to keep busy, not bored. Still others need a warm body in place just in case, and don't pretend to think they have enough work to keep them constantly busy. But studies like this don't care about any of that; they just want the headline. You should always feel guilty that your Corporate Mommy is so good to you, and that you're so lazy...

This is probably assuming that employees would be 100% productive during that time if they weren't on Facebook. For example... A person gets $10 an hour, works 8 hours, and spent a 1/2 hour on Facebook during that time. This statistic is basically saying that this person just lost his company $5. Which is completely misleading.

Usually, the reason why people surf the web at work is because they aren't busy at that point in time or on break. Think being in customer service and people not calling in. Or a secretary when it's a slow day in the office. In other words, the time they spend on FB is most likely time they would have otherwise spent twiddling their thumbs and not being productive anyways if FB didn't exist.

In other words, this statistic is about as accurate as a BLS projection.
