A co-worker read the series and loved it. Couldn't put it down.
Or, watch the movie(s), but the Sweedished dubbed ones. Those were great. The US version sucked.

I haven't read it, but having spoken to a ton of people who watched the movie and several who read the book, it is pretty graphic, but on the whole, it got mostly positive reviews.
Took Mom to see the US movie... we liked it! Graphic, but great story. Book(s) probly even better.
That movie..it just might change you slightly.
Worth watching.
