Best BOOKS for converting Liberals and Neocons

One thing I have determined from arguments with Libs and Neocons is none will EVER change his/her mind during a debate, or even afterward. A better way is to give them a book and leave them alone hoping they give it a fair shake, digest it for a while, and maybe change their tune after actually thinking about things.

Thing is, a book for this purpose has to be very carefully written to avoid turning them off. It can't be too inflammatory but can't sugar coat things either.

One book that has shown promise is Mary Ruwart's "Healing Our World: In An Age of Aggression"

    Any others?

Nothing by Ron Paul though. Unfortunately I think his name itself will cause people to read with a pre-determined opinion.

Michael Scheuer helps neocons see the light. He has the right approach when dealing with these type of people. Scheuer educates you, while not sounding weak. In fact Scheuer sounds very tough with his speak softly but carry a big stick mentality. Neocons are a lot like scared housewives, they want to feel safe. Dealing with this psychologically is quite easy. First educate them as to what makes them unsafe with current foreign policy and allow that to sink in. Then you reassure them that you will defend this country by decimating..no anyone that messes with us. The military isn't meant to nation build, their job is to kill the enemy.

Best book by far for converting liberals is "Healing Our World in an Age of Aggression" by Mary Ruwart. I think there's a free audio version floating around somewhere.
"When it gets down to having to use violence, then you are playing the system's game. The establishment will irritate you - pull your beard, flick your face - to make you fight, because once they've got you violent then they know how to handle you. The only thing they don't know how to handle is non-violence and humor. "

You aren't going to convert a neocon with a book.....lol....you have to do what they do...invite them to go hunting and then shoot them in the face with your shotgun!!!
Do you want to know who you are? Don't ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you.

If it's someone that's into politics give them The Law by Fredric Bastiat. It's short and makes very valid points. Comes from a french guy in the early 1800's who opposed socialism.

Neocons tend to respond well to videos of Scheuer.

Left-liberals like books better than neocons on average. I've pointed out voluminous free literature by and about Ron Paul to neocons who didn't understand him, but they refused to read it. Except books written by other neocons, of course. I once read one of Rush Limbaugh's books. I suspect that the appeal of these folks' work is that it's very simple in style, form, and vocabulary. When I was in college, I met a democrat back in '08 who was interested in RP's ideas that I persuaded him to change parties to vote RP in teh primary. /end ramble

For a New Liberty by Murray Rothbard for those who are unsure of free market capitalism.
“It is hard to free fools from the chains they revere.” -Voltaire

"Insanity in individuals is something rare - but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule." -Frederick Nietzsche

"The Republican form of government is the highest form of government: but because of this it requires the highest type of human nature, a type nowhere at present existing." -Herbert Spencer

Mid 1800s and my problem with recommending this book to liberals is he talks too much about God in it. He also spends most of the book critiquing other socialist writers writing instead of talking about liberty itself. I love The Law but i've come to think it's not the best book for new comers, especially because the writing style itself can be difficult to laymens.

I still think The Revolution is the best place to start for anyone and I think the fact it's Ron's book actually does help us. If you can read that entire book and not be converted in some fashion then you have no soul. It's current, it lays out our arguments wells, and it's less than 200 pages long.

I have never had any luck with converting Liberals and Neo-Cons with books. Videos, however, have proven to be a HUGE success factor for me. One of my best friends used to be a Mitt Romney Republican, but I showed him two videos last year that changed his mind and not only turned him into a Ron Paul fan but slowly turned him into a Libertarian. These two videos were showed in successive order(The Imagine Speech first to grab their attention, and then the primary video to outrage them and nullify any "he's not electable" mentality they might have leftover from the primary). These two videos also turned a hardcore Liberal into a constitution loving Libertarian. These two videos obviously didn't do the full conversion, but they grabbed their attention enough where they were willing to research the topic a bit more.
