The US and Israel jointly developed a computer virus nicknamed Flame

How much US money was dedicated to developing this virus? It seems that this genie is out of the bottle, as our partner Israel has already started utilizing it unilaterally. How many potential uses would this software have?

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/...y.html?hpid=z1

The United States and Israel jointly developed a sophisticated computer virus nicknamed Flame that collected intelligence in preparation for cyber-sabotage aimed at slowing Iran’s ability to develop a nuclear weapon, according to Western officials with knowledge of the effort.

The massive piece of malware secretly mapped and monitored Iran’s computer networks, sending back a steady stream of intelligence to prepare for a cyber*warfare campaign, according to the officials.

The effort, involving the National Security Agency, the CIA and Israel’s military, has included the use of destructive software such as the Stuxnet virus to cause malfunctions in Iran’s nuclear-enrichment equipment.

The emerging details about Flame provide new clues to what is thought to be the first sustained campaign of cyber-sabotage against an adversary of the United States.

“This is about preparing the battlefield for another type of covert action,” said one former high-ranking U.S. intelligence official, who added that Flame and Stuxnet were elements of a broader assault that continues today. “Cyber-collection against the Iranian program is way further down the road than this.”

Flame came to light last month after Iran detected a series of cyberattacks on its oil industry. The disruption was directed by Israel in a unilateral operation that apparently caught its American partners off guard, according to several U.S. and Western officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
    ...
The virus is among the most sophisticated and subversive pieces of malware to be exposed to date. Experts said the program was designed to replicate across even highly secure networks, then control everyday computer functions to send secrets back to its creators. The code could activate computer microphones and cameras, log keyboard strokes, take screen shots, extract geo*location data from images, and send and receive commands and data through Bluetooth wireless technology.

That part is the most interesting for two reasons. It sounds like this weapon is now out of US control, and it is being used to attack (oil) businesses in Iran, not just the nuclear facilities. One hundred and one uses for this software...

I would not be surprised to see its digital fingerprints on the Central Tabulators used in this election.

So they already committed acts of war against Iran, according to their own standards. No surprise there. They're only letting this info out to soften everyone up. "Get used to it, suckers."

Here's a related thread. It appears to be too late to debate the ethics though.

The ethics of cyber attack need full debate

    Why no skepticism here?

If it was reported that Iran developed cyberwarfare (or any sort of terrorism against the US) many here would be saying "lies".

Why when it's us does no one question it?

Because the U.S. is the only one with technilogical capabilities great enough to create this virus. Because NDAA 2013 says that they will not be limited in their engagement of cyber warfare. Because who the $#@! else wants to disrupt nuclear facilities in Iran? Your trolling is becoming more and more obvious.

As to the OP, I suppose it is a matter of time before this virus gets out into public computers.

They've outright assassinated civilian scientists--certainly that's an even more egregious act of war.
Well, I got Rand started on his campaign (just search around here to see). I advised Thomas Massie before he ran for Congress. I am currently advising 2 liberty campaigns for the state legislature. I ran the war-room and won Minnesota for Ron Paul a few weeks back. There are other things I'm probably forgetting.

I posted it a while back before the MSM even mentioned it..

And it is OLD news,, It did not start with Obama, it was running under Bush.
He was bragging about it before he left office.
And it was mentioned and praised during the Republican Debates. We have been at War with Iran for years.

Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.

It's been confirmed through many sources, not just one article.
