Excellent write-up in Chicago Tribune:
Rand Paul warns of mounting debt
Republican U.S. Sen. Rand Paul told about 150 people gathered Thursday night for the Hancock County Republican Party's inaugural Lincoln Day Dinner that the federal government over-reaches into their lives, over-regulates businesses and borrows money at a rate of $50,000 per second.
"It's not just a Republican-Democrat thing. We need to believe again in a government that spends what it takes in," the Kentucky Republican said to audience applause at Hancock County High School.Paul also said before the dinner that he agrees with his father, U.S. Rep. Ron Paul's, position that the U.S. should get out of Afghanistan. America has succeeded in killing Osama bin Laden and in getting al Qaida out of Afghanistan, he said. The $160 billion being spent in Afghanistan and Iraq would be better spent at home, Rand Paul said.http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/s...,1840847.storyJordan said he used various social media to spread the word about the dinner. The group also expects to put video of the senator's speech on YouTube "so Rand Paul supporters can hear what he had to say." Some young people are taking finals and could not attend, he said.
"He really inspired a lot of us to get involved," Jordan said.
