Here is more information on a few cases before the revolution:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blasphemy_law_in_Egypt

There are more cases than these, I presume, since Egypt has been known for this before the revolution.
People who get their panties twisted over the INTERNAL affairs of other nations, by applying our principles to another nation are a huge problem within this nations people.

50 years ago they might have chopped this kids head off in the public square ... Be thankful that such extremes are not the norm, ALL THE TIME.
I am just absolutely convinced that the best formula for giving us peace and preserving the American way of life is freedom, limited government, and minding our own business overseas - Ron Paul
Staying out of their business is a good approach.
Let them keep thinking Ron Paul supporters are just a little army. Every military strategy manual in the world has examples of the bad things that happen to arrogant commanders of massive armies that underestimate the enemy. They all lose. We will win because the human heart, despite its detractors, is meant for truth and freedom.

c- Better for who, for freedom of people of Egypt or for elements supporting Israeli apartheid's open-ended, brutal oppression of mostly unarmed Palestinians?

[you lost me here - but that is OK as I'm "slow" in these foreign matters]
    a) There is no foreign aid I support.

    b) Why ask? I support self-determination of all individuals and I doubt that is compatible with dueling theocracies or the one-state-two-state fiasco. Frankly, I don't know why you are asking me about Israel. The comment of yours which I quoted was not about Israel, neither were my comments...

    c) Better for Christians and individuals. Perhaps my bias is showing as an ex-believer (atheist now). I don't know what is best for religious mobs other than for them to stop being religious mobs.

If you disagree, what do you think caused 9/11?
That's a big-ass curveball. Interventionalism could cause it. Islamoterrorism could cause it. Bad luck could cause it. Combine all three??? This was the quote of yours with which I have issue:

I feel very strongly as if you served up a bad choice here:

    - - - puppet dictatorships versus tribalism

    I support neither.

Based on the survival likilihood of a white Christian/ex-Christian, I have little doubt as to which I would prefer.

There are laws against cursing in some jurisdictions. That is not usually news but when a cop or DA presses the charge, then it becomes news.

If your point is that the same outcome would occur - riots, burnt homes, years in jail - then we can say the revolution has failed to improve these particular aspects of life.

By the way , a three year prison term in Egypt is about the same as a death sentence , unless things have changed in the past few months.

A nice thing for xenophobes to fantasize about, but it certainly has no basis in reality. Maikel Nabil was originally sentenced to 3 years in prison and was released after 10 months.

To a large extent these sentences are meant to avoid angry mobs ransacking entire neighborhoods. That's just the culture, so whatever.

I'd rather get a 3 year sentence in Egypt for blasphemy than pay the penalty for blaspheming the US State God. Considering not submitting your confessional material or not paying your tithes this coming Monday? Ask people like Wesley Snipes what happens.

If you want to look for a country that sends massive amounts of people to prison for long periods of time for idiotic things, take a look at the country with the highest imprisonment rate, the United States.

If the US sucks so bad why are you still here?

There are plenty of things wrong in the USA. But the fact remains that Egyptians move here and not vice versa. I'd say that's evidence that it's preferable to live here than Cairo

I agree US prisons send people to prison for long terms for dumb shit , I would also tell you I have seen Egyptian prisons , and people in US prisons do not have dogs put on them in the cell nor do they share a standard cell with a dozen others ... i have been many places , I would rate Egypt , slightly better than very few ( North Korea and Saud being the only things that comes to mind ), I would prefer Pakistan ,

So you're a love it or leave it authoritarian:
You cannot support Israel without hating and wishing genocide upon Muslims
