Texas hospital refuses to hire overweight people

BMI is a rather poor guideline because there are some people who may be 35+ that aren't fat. Also, I have a friend who is an RN and definitely fat. She's a great nurse, so really they are doing themselves a disservice with this silly guideline.

Next they won't take patients that are overweight...you know property rights and all.

Fat people have more health problems, and therefore there's more profit for the hospital. Plus, over half of this country is fat. That policy would quickly put them out of business.

35 BMI.... Sweet Jesus, let's not set the bar too high America.

The bar is extremely low. I realized that the other day as I watched a 300 pounder waddle into a McDonalds. No pride. No sense of embarrassment. It's sad.

Those were '10 numbers. I have been without income of any kind since June of 11 as in 0 income. try that! We lived on what we saved up. Its called preparing for disaster. If I were to break it down we lived on less then a dollar a day. We had the foresight to prepare for disaster unlike the mooches that expect the government to bail them out. You will lose this argument because it is a way of life for us and we do it well. Period.

Only in a Socialist Society can one place an expectation of Health (which includes but is not limited to a persons Weight) onto another on the basis that the Unhealthy Individual will cost the other person (person meaning corporation, as per current legal definition) some sum of money.

Only in a Free Society can a Fat Smoking Bacon Eating TV Watching Beer Drinking Glue Sniffing Marijuana Loving Man express that Society has absolutely no right to expect them to be a Healthy Productive Member of that Society.

BMI sucks. My BMI is around 27, and I'm less than 15% body fat. Doesn't take into account muscle and body type.

Yup. If they used something scientific (in other words, not BMI... BMI is for census takers), things would be better. That said, a private buinesses should be able to do what they want.

Coming from Michigan, why does it not surprise me we're one of the 6 states with laws against this? I wouldn't be accused of wasting away at all, but go to any public place and I look downright starved in comparison.

Obese is a word used to disparage people by claiming the "Right" to "Deny" Health Care Coverage. They are all happy as pigs rolling in shit when you offer to give them your money, but as soon as you need to collect, the Word Definition Lawyer Sharks come out after your ass! Oh, dont mention that if you are really really sick, loaded up on Big Pharma Prescription Pain Killers, and in constant Agony if youre not completely unconscious (medical unconscious, like sedated, not stupid unconscious) that you are in absolutely no shape to do battle with Laywers and Insurance Policies.
