I gotta Coleman Max 144 lumen guy, 3 aaa batteries, it is EXTREMELY bright and very durable, similar to the one I linked, for like $25 at Wal Mart a year or so ago.

Be careful when you pry my gun from my cold dead hands, the barrel will be hot.

May be close enough to your price range and spec, but some of the best flashlights for the price - IMO

I just got one of these last week and was very surprised with it esp. given the price. It is very bright with just one AA alkaline. I'm planning on trying it out with Li-ion batts. The only problem I have with it is when tightly focused the beam is an odd shape like a square but when wide focused there is a slight halo.

Dollar store, nine LED light. Good for close up, not so good for far away.

I'd avoid Maglites. They were some of the best flashlights up until about 15 years ago, but they haven't been able to keep up with the latest led technology (probably because they're too big). The best flashlights now are coming from small companies.
To put things in perspective:
Maglite Solitaire (1aaa): 2.3 lumens, 3.5 hours
Mini-Mag (2aaa): 15.6 lumens, 2 hours
Mini-Mag (2aa): 15.2 lumens, 5.5 hours
I carry a Fenix E01 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001GAOO6Y) on my keychain, and it puts out 13 lumens and lasts 21 hours. I use it very frequently, and a single aaa lasts me about a year. 13 lumens is enough light for most daily uses. You can put a chapstick cap on the end of it to use as a light diffuser, and it will light up a room or tent pretty well.
The only Maglite I'd consider getting is the big 6-D (http://www.amazon.com/MAGLITE-S6D016.../dp/B000056BME). Keep it in your car, and it doubles as a club.
If you want something brighter than the Fenix E01, but just as small, I'd go with the iTP A3 EOS (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006K5C2EG). With 1aaa it has 3 brightness levels: 1.5 lumens for 50 hours, 18 lumens for 4 hours, or 96 lumens for 55 minutes. You can also put a 10440 Li-Ion rechargeable in it and it will bump it up to about 225 lumens.
I also agree with the recommendations above for a 4Sevens Quark... awesome light. This is probably the only 1aa model you'll find for under $50: http://www.amazon.com/4Sevens-Quark-.../dp/B004UA61RW

The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you're inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it.
Are you planning on just using this for a bore light ? If so , they make those ...
